I was basically saying this before, but I don't mind them pulling kids up and letting them play through the end of the season. I think Stewart's start fits into that. Yeah, they might get tossed around a little bit, but I think it's a good idea to give some of the talent in their system a taste of the big leagues.

Whalen to retire at end of the season.
Not a surprise since she going to coach the Lady Gophers
Not to be too pushy about it, but she's going to coach the Gophers, not the Lady Gophers. Or are there Gentleman Gophers too?
Oy. When Jeff Passolt left KARE way back in 1994, they hired a guy named Russell Shamooka from the west coast to replace him instead of moving Randy Shaver up as sports director right away like they should have. He was pretty insufferable and couldn't figure out that college women and high school girls play basketball. He couldn't stop calling them the Gopher Girls basketball team until Paul Magers finally called him out on it during a commercial break after his sports block, as only Magers could call someone out. Shamooka lasted less than a year, if I remember correctly.
Here's last night's "golden" grand slam, which is apparently much more rare of a feat than I would have thought:
And I'm sure Maddon gets 80% of the credit.
Calling for the grand slam there was a savvy, veteran move by Maddon.
So a "Golden" is at home in 9th or later, 2 outs, down 3?
Where only a homer wins it and any out loses it?
So Kubel does not get a golden because Dennys Reyes failed two allow the two Crainwreck-inherited runners to score?
And this one came too early in a road game in which too many runs had already scored?
The first one only overcame a one run deficit.
The second was in the 8th inning, so not a walkoff (which would obviously be impossible, as you noted, since the Twins were the road team).
Did I not say that?
Wikipedia calls it "Ultimate Grand Slam", which somehow sounds stupider.
I think it should be called a "Backyard" grand slam.
But "Ultimate" is with any number of outs. "Golden" must be the subset of "Ultimate" with 2 runs.
Apparently, there had been 15 GUGSs as of 9/11/2013.
So there have now been at least 16. Plus any more that happened in the interceding 5 seasons.
I ordered a book on eBay, and found out that shipping USPS book rate means in travels from Dallas to Memphis to Jacksonville to...stay tuned for the next stopover.
This has been all over social media but pretty cool if you havenβt seen it.
Wow, that's amazing.
i hope that guy's teammates never stop ribbing him on getting so thoroughly owned by the old man.
I feel like they're congratulating the wrong player at the end. Sure he scored the goal, but that was 20% of the effort.
Rooney's effort was amazing but don't shortchange the "smallest guy on the field" winning what was essentially a 50-50 header. It wasn't like he was wide open and just had to tap it in.
This weekend a couple of birders apparently stumbled onto the gravel road that runs past my father-in-law's still-flooded field. They shared online somewhere (a facebook group, though I've not identified which as of yet (despite joining 2 (both of which had AMR as a member))) that it was a great spot for shorebirds, and son on Sunday we had a few more birders hanging out. I have trouble distinguishing shorebirds, but I think they taught me a few things, and... yeah. There's a whole ton of things in our field. I still wish there were corn in the field, but I guess the birds are neat.
Which county is this?
Redwood.
