  1. I'm not sure how much value there is in him playing a month's worth of meaningless games, and there's plenty of value in keeping a player under team control for an extra year. Is it worth risking the relationship with the young player for future contract negotiations? I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the makeup of the player. The Twins' front office would know that a lot better than I do.

    1. I'd be less bothered if the Twins showed an iota of concern during the season about his health. They rushed him back only to go back on the DL. If his wrist is still bothering him, which I can believe, then why did he play to finish the season? Now they care about the wrist?

      1. He hit .365 over the last two weeks with an OPS of almost a thousand. I don't think the wrist is much of an issue.

        1. Ditto. Sounds like a PR line to excuse keeping him from accumulating service credit. Dude needs to spend time on the ML roster figuring it out. What better time than during "meaningless" September games?

          1. I will always, always support labor over management, so this service time thing really rankles me. Its such a TR regime move. (er, I suppose a Pohland move since that's the common link).

            1. It's such an owner move in general. The players need a better union leader and they need to fight the stupid system they have. They also need to start taking care of all their players, minor leaguers included, and not just the guys who have been in the league 7+ years.

              3. Indeed. It’s way past time for MLBPA to not only include minor-leaguers in its membership, but to actively & adequately address the needs of minor-leaguers.

          2. The other thing about it is that while it's easy for fans to say these are "meaningless games", I don't think they would be meaningless to a young player trying to re-establish himself.

    2. While Buxton's bat may not help, he can still run and still play outstanding CF. Benching him for the rest of the season is not helping the Twins win games and that makes me sad.

      I really hope service time manipulation gets resolved in the next round of labor talks because its really dumb.

  3. Got off of work last night at 930. By 10, I was on all fours in bathroom with an intense pain in my left side and puking/dry heaving until we left for the ER at 1:30. 1:30 until 5:30 in the ER consisted of endless cycles of "OH...pain... need meds now!" and more dry heaving. Did a scan, and at 5:oo am the doc walks in and says "kidney stone". I ask how kidney stones cause vomiting. Doctor tells me that very intense pain causes vomiting. So, I am pretty jacked up on pain meds right now and got home a few minutes ago. What a night.

    2. Doubleplusungood. My BIL suffered from kidney stones for many years caused by a hyperactive thyroid. Hope your recovery is swift and complete.

    3. Can't believe my LTE read as lucid as it did above. Boy, when I got out of the hospital I was floating from all the pain meds. I got home and crashed on my couch hard. I still haven't passed the stone, but I believe it has passed into the bladder and the worst is over.

      1. Maybe don't use it as an excuse to re-watch Deadwood. (unless you haven't seen it, then do use it as an excuse.)

    1. Things that will never get old for me includes the pain of Vikings fans. It's a very comforting pain, in that strange way.

  5. This article on VPNfilter is from way back in June, but I'm seeing chatter about the malware again recently.

    There is no easy way to know if a router is infected. One method involves searching through logs for indicators of compromise listed at the end of Cisco's report. Another involves reverse engineering the firmware, or at least extracting it from a device, and comparing it with the authorized firmware. Both of those things are out of the abilities of most router owners. That's why it makes sense for people to simply assume a router may be infected and disinfect it. Researchers still don't know how routers initially become infected with stage 1, but they presume it's by exploiting known flaws for which patches are probably available.

    Steps to fully disinfect devices vary from model to model. In some cases, pressing a recessed button on the back to perform a factory reset will wipe stage 1 clean. In other cases, owners must reboot the device and then immediately install the latest available authorized firmware from the manufacturer. Router owners who are unsure how to respond should contact their manufacturer, or, if the device is more than a few years old, buy a new one.

    Router owners should always change default passwords and, whenever feasible, disable remote administration. For extra security, people can always run routers behind a proper security firewall. Williams said he has seen no evidence VPNFilter has infected devices running Tomato, Merlin WRT, and DD-WRT firmware, but that he can't rule out that possibility.

    I did the reboot thing previously, but am now wondering what else I should be doing (if anything).

  6. I feel like I cheated Will Young out of a glorious moment. I read his documenting of jerseys when he does it and I'm amazed at how he can keep track. But then, I saw it yesterday... someone wearing a Jonny Flynn jersey at the Fair. I documented my discovery and posted on the FB. I'm like Henry Fonda's soon-to-be step-grandson catching Walter in On Golden Pond.

  7. With two out in the top of the first, Gilberto Celestino walked and Chris Williams hit a two-run homer. Elizabethton leads Princeton 2-0 after a half inning. In Fort Myers, Andro Cutura retired Palm Beach in order in the top of the first. No score.

  9. The E-Twins still lead 2-0 going to the bottom of the second. Alex Kirilloff homered in the bottom of the second to give Fort Myers a 1-0 lead going to the bottom of the second.

  10. No change in the scores. Elizabethton is now through 2 1/2. The Fort Myers game is in the top of the third.

      i'm thinking we're going to need to merge the two leagues next year.
