Looking forward to the Pike and Pint for supper tonight; hoping to also meet a college buddy at noon today, too. Life is so much better when we don't have to make the entire 14hr drive in one day
If it wasn't my anniversary, and if I wasn't out of town all day, I'd meet up with you.
Bummer! Next time...
I am so bummed I missed u! Totally blew out my back Thursday, missed work yesterday and only made it 6 hours today. Sorry bud! Hope your dinner was great. My wife enjoyed talking to you. Hopefully there is a next time.
The meal was excellent - we'll definitely find an excuse to come back again. We're enjoying the not-90 degree weather here, and should have more when we head to Walker later this morning.
Take care of yourself!
One more homer and the Yanks pass the 1997 Mariners.
Massive tie scenarios are dead, but there's a decent chance of a game 163 on Monday
Though saying his career WAR is not top 100 shows a lack of understanding
???
He is a long, long ways from top-100 WAR (240-ish all time for rWAR, 198th in fWAR). If your point is that he's in a handful of top catchers all time, then sure. He's 7th all-time for JAWS amongst catchers, 5th on WAR7, 12th in fWAR.
I don't know what his point was.
True, but a lack of understanding that I can forgive, considering the tone of the article.
He's not the player that 2009 promised. Injuries robbed us (and, of course, him) of that, and that really sucks. He is one of the very best Twins ever, though, and the more people that come around to that, the better.
I think his legacy will improve dramatically in the coming years.
Tangentially, his tip of the cap as he came off the field last night really felt like a farewell of sorts.
Yes it did. I got chills.
My Mom is a huge Joe Mauer fan. It was pretty cool to get to bring her to the game to witness that. Thanks again eschapp!
That’s great!
I’ve been pretty convinced of his retiring for the past few days, but family life hasn’t allowed me to get to a game. I’m surprisingly (to myself) bumbed about that. With several players doing the ego-stroking retirement tour these past few years, I really would have liked to give him one last round of respectful applause.
We were pretty close to just doing heading down there and grabbing some tickets today. Maybe if it was ten to fifteen degrees warmer.
If this is the end, I'm glad that my dad and I went to Wrigley. My last game that I saw Mauer play in involved him hitting a three run home run and having all the Cubs fans marvel at how good a player he is/was.
Especially since there's over 200 former players in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Yes. This is a proper Mauer take.
