I remember going up to Stewart River in the college years (early 80's) during smelt season. Once the rain warmed up, the smelt hit the rivers and even where the culverts emptied into Lake Superior. When they were heavy you could pick them off the rocks on the shore.
Knife River always had a big party going on. We'd get our garbage cans filled with smelt around 2AM, then go to the Burntside dorms at UMD and clean the smelt in the girl's laundry tubs. Smelt.
LeBron not playing today and the Lakers look like the Lakers of last year.
We are about to begin the last phase of our seemingly never-ending cross country trek. We stayed in Vegas last night, with just 4 more hours of driving left to get home. The kids and I will be dropping my wife off at the airport shortly (she has a conference to go to this week) then we’ll head back home. It’s been a good trip, and I love getting to spend time with both sides of the family, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting back home.
Horray for going to the NL so the Twins wont run into him 5 times a season and have 4 innings go by in 3 hours time
His middle name is probably Jeremy, too.
R. I. P. Lenny Green, who passed away today, on his birthday, at age eighty-six.
Thibs fired
Never thought Papa Glen had the stones to do it
Almost got in first.
Would have said the same
Are they going to rehire Jimmy Rogers or Kurt Rambis
No need. There is a Saunders in the building already.
Hoiberg's name is floating around too.
Some Yahoo is speculating the timing of it is to keep Hoiberg from going to UCLA. If somebody was offered to coach UCLA, would they turn it down to coach the Wolves?
Also, UCLA can do a lot better than Fred Hoiberg.
Did you see what he did at Iowa State? He was great as a college coach.
Yeah, I think this is more like Hoiberg can do better than UCLA. Last time they wanted Brad Stevens and ended up with...Steve Alford. Plus, lots of talk that Hoiberg never really liked the recruiting part of coaching college, which makes it seem likelier he'd prefer another NBA job first.
Richard Pitino's in the midst of one of those little spurts where his team wins a few games, and he immediately starts flirting with other jobs, so I'm sure his hat is in the ring.
Rick much more likely. He's coaching in Greece right now, but I've heard his name rumored for UCLA.
So it wasn't a dream. Nice. Now to get rid of Rose and I can come back to watching games.
Mercy!
I'd love to hear Hawk's call on the Bear's missed last-second FG.
Smelt is an invasive species. I did not know that. Cool piece.

Mets sign Hector Santiago to a minor league contract.
