Did a long overdue update to the site, so let me know if you see anything wrong. I was holding off because of some big changes but I don't think any cheese has moved.
Taxes filed. Our income was up 7.5 pct from last year. Our federal taxes went down $14. I feel stimulated.
You're doing it wrong. You're supposed to just look at your refund and no other factors.
"refund"....
I've been doing it wrong for years, apparently. 🙁
According to the masses.
What? You don't like to give the gubmint an interest-free loan?
We loaded up our charitable giving in 2017 knowing with the change we'd only have the standard deduction for 2018, but even so we got mashed.
We discovered that we had been withholding quite a bit more than needed out of our paychecks.
Any chance of re-opening the keeper window on the fantasy baseball league? I apparently didn't save mine like I thought I did?
I didn't do anything on the website, just sent my picks via mail. In any case, I'd ask over email cause I don't think RPZ checks this site on the regular anymore.
I wasn’t sure if the list was finalized. I need to send mine in, too.
I thought there was a set keepers option on the site at one point?
I might be mixing up my leagues that I'm in.
I think there is, but that he does it manually. I could very well be wrong about that, but I didn't hear anything was wrong after I sent him my keepers.
Sorry guys. Work has been crazy. Feel free to send me your keepers at robzk@yahoo.com and I'll get them in.
We've had my brother in law living with us since early December. He's a bit of a shut-in (lots of anxiety issues), and I think he probably feels a little out of place in our house that is pretty much oriented around our son. We've tried to include him in activities and he is willing to be with just us, or do things around the neighborhood, but has refused every invitation outside of that comfort zone. He's had a couple of nights where he's had too much to drink (a major trigger for my wife) and one or two instances where he started drinking early in the day. We stopped having any beer in the house for the last 2 months or so.
We bought some brisket and Guinness this week (taking advantage of post-St. Patrick's day sales) for a future dinner. Needed one pint, bought 4. I drank one with dinner that evening, and woke up the next morning to see another one gone from the refrigerator. 2 remain in the fridge as I leave for work. Came home at lunch to find another one taken from the fridge since the morning. Brother in law had either drank a beer before leaving for work or taken a beer to work with him.
My wife is very upset about this. I feel like this is an escalation of previous worrying behavior related to alcohol. We talked with him after work last night. Didn't focus on this instance, more on what we can do to support him being happy with himself. A lot of his responses felt like the type of "this is what they want to hear" kinds of things - he was trying to find the quickest way out of the conversation. I did most of the talking (not my forte) because my wife is so overwhelmed and anxious and angry that she didn't trust herself to stay empathetic. The two of us (my wife and I) have talked about this quite a bit and know where each of our triggers are and what our strengths and weaknesses are, and this is a situation where she's leaning a little more heavily on me than usual.
Unrelated to all of this, my mother and father in law are coming up for a visit this weekend (arriving tomorrow). I feel like they will walk into the middle of this conversation without context. My wife's efforts to communicate with them about this previously have been frustrating at best. They have a master plan of getting brother in law out of the house and living on his own. We (me, my wife, brother in law) are not convinced this is the best option.
So I'm dreading this weekend a little bit. There's a lot of anxiety flying around, and I feel over-taxed with being the counterweight to that.
Thanks for listening, I appreciate it.
Oooof, I'm sorry to hear about the whole situation--it sounds hugely stressful.
Dido. Best wishes. FWIW, we are here to listen.
Thanks. Hoping everyone involved can keep communicating.
You didn't ask for advice, and I don't really have any anyway, but I'll keep you and your family in our prayers.
Thanks Jeff, it's helpful to know we aren't alone in this.
Handling things like this within a family is a delicate undertaking. Wishing you all a good outcome.
Thanks CH. Everyone is acknowledging there's a problem, so that's a start.
It's been a while since I was around an alcoholic who would snipe the few drinks around the house. The last time I was around it, I was the culprit. I remember that feeling - the belief that the person who rightfully owned the drink couldn't possibly miss the one, or even know it was gone. The next day (or hour) you do the same. Before long, you realize you've been the consumer of nearly the entire sixer/twelver/case.
I don't know if it helps for me to say this kind of thing or not, but I feel I can at least provide context on the internal struggle. I'm sure he hates himself for doing it, but I'm just as sure he won't resist the urge to do it again.
I've hinted at it for a while, but I have an alcoholic in the family now as well. My stepmother has been piss drunk every time I've seen her for probably three to four years now. I mean, every single night. I don't mean she gets a little tipsy. I mean she's falling down, tripping over shit and having entire conversations that she soberly repeats the next day because she's utterly blacked out the previous night. It's a bizarre thing to see. She retired from teaching about five years ago and this happened almost immediately after. I clearly recall her getting irritated with my dad for having two beers (he has a decent tolerance; two beers isn't a problem) at the bar & grill four blocks from their house. The last time I went there, she tripped and fell in the space between the two sets of doors, in front of people we all know. They gave a knowing look; apparently it is well known around town that she's become a mess.
The point: my dad is either unwilling or unable to help. I'm sure it's the latter. My dad is ridiculously old-country Scandinavian avoidant when it comes to conflict. We try to talk to him a little about how to deal with it, and his response is something to the effect of "I know...I know I have to do something" accompanied by a shrug that we understand means he isn't going to do anything. So I'm glad you're at least willing to have the conversation, because it's excruciating to watch my dad - the nicest person I know - let this problem undo him because he doesn't know when to step in.
A week ago, one of their dogs died, and in the same week, they found out my stepmom has Parkinson's, so I don't expect this to be addressed anytime soon. The Milkmaid and I want to talk about it again before long; we've tried at least five times but we're afraid she's drinking herself to death at this point.
The point 2: we fight this battle together. I truly hope there's some solace there.
Thanks spooky, this stuff is always hard, and we've got a fair dose of conflict avoidance tendencies ourselves. Thanks for sharing, and I hope things turn around for your family soon.
Phil Mackey had Glen Perkins on the radio this afternoon and had a great conversation about pitching, analytics, etc. I know they podcast and social media the hell out of these things so I think it can easily be found on all the Skor North platforms if interested.
I'm amused/amazed that Dazzle seems to be on board all the use of analytics this spring in helping the batters/pitchers. I don't think he's been a proponent in the past, but even he seems to be seeing the advantages.
If there's one thing I've noticed, it's that the organization appears to be doing a MUCH better job of preaching the same story to players of all levels. Hopefully gone are the days of players being brought up that don't seem to be on the same page as the big league players.
PC question: If I add my new USB 802.11ac wireless adapter without removing/disabling my current 802.11n adapter, should the OS be able to decide to use the new adapter? I don't want to immediately get rid of the old one because I think it may also be handling Bluetooth, and I'd hate to lose my keyboard and mouse during the interim.
I think so. I see three wireless connections available on my Windows laptop, with only one active at the moment. I'm not sure offhand how to pick the wireless adapter but looks like it's possible.
Looks like Windows has some obscure system in how it determines adapter precedence, so I found it worked to just disable the old adapter. That said, the new one is only using 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz, which is frustrating, but the speed is showing as much better. We'll see when gigabit is installed on Saturday.
Now above (federal) minimum wage for their six month, 40 hour per week jobs.
Nine Years ago tomorrow, Joe Mauer signed his big contract, an 8-year contract starting the next season.
I'll remember this date a long time because I was in the hospital for most of the day with day-old AJR.
The same day, this passed the House of Representatives and I had a lot of work to do when I got of off my week of Paternity leave.
Baseball starts in a couple hours ago(!)

Fourteen. If I was still young I'd poke at the seeding, but I'm not, so meh.
I'm putting this here. I feel out of my depth and a little overwhelmed at the moment.
