CLEARWATER 3, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

The Threshers scored single runs in the third, fourth, and seventh.

Batting star:  Royce Lewis was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Bryan Sammons struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and two walks.  Tom Hackimer struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Calvin Faucher pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks and striking out one.

Opposition star:  Damon Jones struck out seven in 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and four walks.

Stats:  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-1 and is batting .317.  Sammons has an ERA of 0.40.  Hackimer has an ERA of 0.68.

Sammons was the starting pitcher.  He was not being used as an opener.  The Twins have a rule that if a minor league pitcher throws thirty-five pitches or more in an inning, he has to come out of the game.  Sammons threw thirty-seven in the first.  A caught stealing enabled him to allow four baserunners without giving up a run, but that would be his only inning.

Record:  The Miracle is 15-10, third in the Southern League South, two games behind Bradenton and Palm Beach.
