Okay, one more poll. Overall, and looking across the league and not just at the Twins in a vacuum:

Are you satisfied with the Twins moves before the deadline?

  • Yes (76%, 19 Votes)
  • Unsure (16%, 4 Votes)
  • No (8%, 2 Votes)

  1. Sad to see Jaylin Davis go,but I guess if you want somebody worth having you have to give up somebody worth getting.

    1. Agreed. Davis is interesting to follow. Is he a late bloomer or having that magical AAAA season? I think he has some good upside, but not a slam dunk by any means. I really wanted to see what he could do as a Twin, but as an older prospect playing a position we are flush in, it makes sense to move him.

        1. Ah, that's a very good point that I'd not considered. I know home run rate is way up in AAA. I wonder how many guys are having similar "breakout seasons".

      1. Yes. This allows them to keep someone else.

I'm not saying I know enough about who that would be but that opportunity cost had to be considered.

  2. John Bonnes posted a similar poll that showed most respondents were generally satisfied (if not overjoyed) with the way the Twins handled the deadline. I share those sentiments, but I'm surprised so many other people do based on what I saw on Twitter. Must be a case of the vocal minority making a lot of noise.

      1. I voted “No” in the poll, because absent acquiring a top-of-the-rotation arm, I think lengthening the bullpen with one additional arm beyond Romo & Dyson was warranted. That part of the team takes on an added level of importance in the postseason, and if the demands for Syndergaard were unreasonable and Greinke wouldn’t waive his no trade, then picking up one extra reliever seems prudent.

I’m not mad that the Twins didn’t land a second ace, but I am a bit disappointed to see how far Houston jumped out in front of the rest of the AL, and rather alarmed by how well Cleveland seems to have filled its more significant holes.

        1. I think that the biggest need for the Twins bullpen was to get a couple of arms that Rocco trusts so that Rogers' arm is still connected to his body come October. Dyson and Romo fit the bill for me.

One more reliver might have been good, but I think that they did what they had to do to give the team a fighting chance.

        2. I'm very curious about how Cleveland is going to be. I'm not convinced that they're better off, but I'm not convinced that they're worse off.

Bauer has already been worth almost 2 wins. Puig is .8 and Reyes is .4. It takes another roster spot to have the two platoon, though maybe that helps each of them get maximum value too. Still, losing a starter of Bauer's quality is going to hurt the Indians, especially in the regular season.

          1. Ups their likeability, though. (bonus points would be given if they became the Spiders like they should.)

          2. I'm assuming they intend to use Reyes as a DH, since they don't really have one, and since Reyes has been a bad fielding outfielder, but maybe not.

            1. Reyes splits this year... His OPS is 100 points lower against lefties, and that's with a BABIP 80 points higher against lefties. I thought Puig's were going to be notable too, but they're really not, so... nevermind. Maybe they're not as platoony as I thought.

Well, we'll see what they do with 'em, and how much they miss Bauer.

              1. Salazar makes his debut today so it's sort of like they traded Bauer for Puig and Salazar. Of course, Salazar hasn't pitched since 2017 and is coming back from shoulder surgery.

    1. speaking of the geek, I listened to their podcast for the first time in a while. It's better now (at least the free one) because they're at the KFAN studio and not drinking. But I still prefer Gleeman alone; he's more focused.

      1. I gave up on Gleeman & the Geek for a couple years (pretty much for the Molitor era). Couldn't stand it anymore with the negativity, no matter if it was deserved or not.
Now that the team is good again, Gleeman's pessimism is more manageable and Bonnes' optimism is less misplaced- and they do have some good insights.

Still only listening to the free version, for now.

  3. 4ltr's "Completed" MLB trade tracker page has no mention of the Dyson trade. Additionally, no mention of the Twins in the winners (or losers), so thankfully we're still flying under their radars.

    1. CBS didn't seem to like their "inaction", but everything I've seen keeps talking about starters, as if Robbie Ray is just what this team needed or something.

I'm sure there were options like Mike Minor or something along those lines available, but...does that improve the team in a five game playoff series?

Everything I've read seems to imply that the Astros were the only team with a shot at Greinke. Every team that inquired about Thor said that what the Mets were asking for didn't deserve a second look. Stroman might have been nice, especially for the price, but I don't think that the Twins were the only ones who got frustrated on that deal.

  4. Anyone here ever been to Marrakesh? My wife and I are going at the end of September.

    1. My brother in law lived in Fez for at least a couple years, depending on how deep you want to dig for Moroccan must-dos.
      What brings you there?

      1. Cheap flights from Malaga, mostly.

More or less "while we're in the neighborhood..."

    2. Got as far as Tangiers. Trail schedule to Fez and Marrakesh looked spotty at best so we hung out for a while, then escaped back to Spain.

I recommend getting a guide if for no other reason that keeping other guide-wanna-be's at bay. We didn't and I regret it.
