There will be no recap today. Partly because I don't have time, but mostly because my heart just isn't in it this morning. I'll just say that the Twins have now lost three of four to two of the worst teams in the league. I know, it's baseball and it happens. But if the Twins want to playing ball in October, it had better stop happening.
Buxton. Cron. 🙁
Do they pitch?
They help the pitchers, yes.
Not when the ball goes over the fence. Well, maybe once in a while Buxton does, but not that often.
When they've broken Jeff A, we're all in trouble.
Get your sh!t together, Twins!
Yankees hit 5 homers against the Dodgers in Dodgers Stadium. 11 behind the Twins now.
Dear cheaps:
Opeth...? Hipster metal
The Mets struck out 26 Braves in 14 innings last night. Still lost.
So...I wonder if they should implement an opener strategy for a couple of the rotation spots in September when the rosters expand? Something creative that admits they are struggling seems a better bet than holding pat. And, really, an opener strategy for 1 playoff rotation spot is a legitimate strategy I think.
Starting with Dyson followed by Perez, for instance. Thorpe followed by Berrios.
Struggling? They've won 5 of their last 8 games! For real, though, Berrios had a shutout for 5 innings and then was essentially one pitch away from 1 run allowed in 6 IP when he gave up the grand slam. Granted, it was a really bad pitch, but I've seen Twins batters foul off those pitches a lot lately, it seems like. Gibson was similar, throwing a really bad pitch to Abreu for 3 of the 5 runs he allowed in nearly 7 IP. Plus, if the bullpen held the Tigers down last night, the Twins would have won anyways and we wouldn't be worried about it. Either way, the Twins have lost 3 of 4 and haven't lost any ground in the standings.
Those three losses were to the White Sox and Tigers...
This time of year, teams like the Sox and Tigs have little else to play for except to be spoilers. They are playing loose because they have nothing left to lose; you won't find one puckered butt in the lot of them. The Twins seem to have quite of few of them lately.
Yes, I think the starters have been struggling at times. Berrios was getting hit hard before the slam. I wasn’t suggesting anything about other teams, standings, or record over the past 8 games.
Ignoring that issue because of those other factors seems folly IMO.
If so, Romo needs to do it at least once.
