A hot dog is a sandwich.
I agree
Fighting words, yo.
Easily my favorite Freud quote.
Can I get a ruling on pretzel dogs and corn dogs?
Pretzel dogs are snack foods and corn dogs are a vegetable.
Both are croquettes.
Neither are brats. Move along, son
All brats are hot dogs, not all hot dogs are brats.
And it's the second part of that statement that I'm emphasizing.
Hey, I noticed meatloaf sandwich was missing from that chart. Not my favorite, but should be a qualifier anyways, I would think
You spelled hamburger wrong.
well, at least it has "sandwich" in the name
Cold, leftover meatloaf on white bread with mayo might have made my top 6.
Itβs definitely in mine.
Mea culpa, but I missed this LTE.
I don't do mayo (on meatloaf). Mustard, cheese, maybe some dill pickle. Yumm.
From Sheenie, the State Fair Award Winning Baker:
Is the best way to follow her on IG or are you acting as a intermediary here? I just don't want to creep her out or something.
Yes, IG. I just don't have an IG account.

On the topic of drinks, would there be any interest in an appetite post with a summer-y cocktail recipe?
Yes please.
Seconded.
Thirded.
I had decided that I was going to learn how to mix drinks during my quarantine. I didn't.
Ooh, we've been having some great cocktails this summer. Sheenie just made jalapeno simple syrup
So anyway, if you catch him with it, that's how he got it
Ha! I'm infusing jalapenos in vodka.
Thank goodness! We're off the basil train finally?
Cucumber and basil muddled (ok, pounded like hell) with some sugar. Add lime juice, gin, ice. Shake vigorously. Strain over ice in Tom Collins and fill with tonic.
I once attempted to make a boozy watermelon. I put some basil in a bottle of vodka, cut a plug out of the watermelon, and the upturned the vodka into the plug.
Problem: it was a seedless watermelon , and I didnβt make any holes into it, so the vodka didnβt go into the watermelon at all.
Not a problem: the watermelon and basil infused vodka I accidentally made was awesome.
I got two 1L bottles of cucumber vodka for $6.77 each yesterday.
Absolute steal.
I've become a cocktail guy since we got the money, so definitely go for it.
I miss baseball.
Me too. I definitely miss coaching little league (that as a childless man I kind of aged out of). So much goofy joy during those games.
On the earlier topic of sandwiches, I would be remiss if I didn't post the recipe for Sandwich Loaf. My Mom (Dixie, God rest her soul), made this a family standard for open houses, birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions. This recipe was printed in The Metsakukkian Cookbook 1997, a family affair.
Sandwich Loaf
1-2 lb. unsliced pullman loaf of bread (you have to call to order this from the bakery). Trim crust, slice lengthwise into 4 slices. Spread with softened butter. First layer is tuna salad; then egg salad; then deviled ham.
Fillings:
Tuna salad - tuna with chopped green celery, chopped onion, and salt and pepper.
Egg salad - Miracle Whip, mustard, hard-boiled eggs diced, chopped pickle, and salt and pepper.
Deviled ham with chopped sweet pickles, mixed with Miracle Whip.
Frost the top and sides with cream cheese thinned with cream or milk to the consistency of frosting. Decorate top with red pimiento, sliced olives. Slice into 1/2" slices (like slices of bread). (Optional fourth layer could be cream cheese and chopped English walnuts or creamed cheese and chopped olives).
.... wow.... just... ... so much wow.
Dido.
At first I thought this said meatloaf sandwich. Cold meatloaf makes for a great sandwich filling.
