  1. Interest (what little there has been) has been flagging for the WGOM Digital Caucus calls -- Stick and I can trade stories for quite a while, but the idea was for more folks to get involved. I know the timing isn't optimal. Do we still want to do these?

Or...do we want to coordinate a Zoom call with some Twins games? I have a Zoom subscription, so there is no hour time limit. I don't think I have to be logged in as host for other people to be on the call. Would anyone be interested? I can experiment with this and we can come up with a secure way to provide the Zoom link with a predetermined password. I would hope this doesn't take the place of the game log, just a supplement.

    1. I've always wanted to participate, but Sunday evenings are terrible timing for me.

        1. the sunday time is right around cocktail hour/dinner time for me.

I would be willing to host a game zoom on the regular as well, on weekends (since I'd be, umm, "borrowing" my work subscription).

  2. Love it or hate it, this is the sort of thing I expected networks to roll out when they had weeks of notice that games would be played with no fans in attendance:

    1. This doesn't really bother me that much. I don't care about shots of the crowd much. This season already feels like a video game, may as well lean into it.

      1. I'm fine with some innovation and experimentation in these unprecedented times.
Our question should be what the odds are we'll see virtual fans filling the gaps and empty seats on TV when attendance is permitted.

        1. I want to know if there'll be digital hot dog vendors? I want to look for virtual Marsh.

          1. Hmmm...why wouldn't the Twins' want to license the likeness of their most prolific hot dog salesman?

            1. He's not the tall guy who makes everything a [pick your Geoff word] production while blocking the view during the five minutes it takes him to finish and serve the hot dog, right?

        2. Our question should be what the odds are we'll see virtual fans filling the gaps and empty seats on TV when attendance is permitted.

Do actors and models get cosmetic surgery?

  3. For whatever it is worth, I think we auto-drafted. I'm actually on board with using this season* as a reset on the keeper league, if people want.

*Also next season, because, let's be honest, none of us are optimistic about the labor situation.

      1. I had players that were actually keeper-worthy! I think.
But yes, I could handle pretending this year didn't happen, and pick up later where we left off.

        1. I mean, my team was pretty fair with regard to keepers and such too. But I had the sense that the folks at the bottom of the league were largely zombie-teams, and if we can freshen the pool and get more interest with a re-set, I'd be willing.

          1. I'm mildly interested in rejoining. I left when we were planning a large move so had very little time for a league then.

      2. Yeah, we lost our keepers this draft. Think it might be the easiest to just start fresh next year.

        1. Sorry all. I completely forgot the draft this year for some reason... I'm okay with whatever, although I don't know if I can get keepers in in the next couple of days.

My thought is that we either keep this year with the autodraft or redraft, and then plan on resuming the keeper stuff next year with the same rosters and such.

          1. I completely forgot the draft this year for some reason..

Yeesh, rpz, what else could have possibly been on your mind this year? 😉

      1. I'd be in favor of a pause year in terms of keepers and whatnot, but I'd like a redraft. A completely autodrafted year is kinda lame.

        1. Yeah, I'd be okay with this, but it needs to be quick. That said, I'm also fine with staying as is if we can't reach a quorum.

  4. Just saw a meme that said MJ is better than LeBron because his shooting percentage from 8-24 feet was better.

That's a great way to get me to argue against someone whose overall point I agree with!

    1. Joe Mauer was a better catcher than A.J. Pierzynski because Mauer had a better batting average than Pierzynski when they were hitting leadoff (.276 vs. .200).

  5. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. It's a suitable intermediary. "Washington" is distinguished, or should be, and has cultural relevance associated with the name itself. A fan could cheer for "Washington" and not be missing out on much. A nice "W" on the helmet...stylish takes on "Washington" on team gear. Fans wanting to dress up could wear a colonial officer getup.
      It could work.

    2. They already have their built in chants.

      Go, Team!
      Go, Team, Go!
      Yay, Team!

Okay, I'm taking that last one down. Too soon.

      1. I think they should go for "Washington, Team for Football" that way we can get a WTF chant.

    3. Instead of "Hail to the Redskins", maybe they can come up with a football version of "A Horse With No Name".

    4. Not a big fan of that font. Its like the Vikings font, but with the serifs going left instead of right (and Im not a fan of the Vikings font)

  6. Chairman announced on today's town hall that our last unpaid week in August was dropped. Mrs. Runner is of mixed mind, as she had projects in mind for me. So...win-win!

  7. Random Twins Trivia Because I Don't Remember The Answer: It must have been in the late 80's, but the Twins were playing in the Dome, and the other team caught a ball up at the wall to end the game. Players started to congratulate each other as they walked into the dugout. Umpire walks up and says, "uhh, hey, where's the ball?" The outfielder could not produce it. Home run.

    When was that again?

      1. I understand it’s to mitigate good teams having bad stretches, but it opens the door for champions with a .470 winning percentage. Which I suppose would be hilarious, so whatever.

Given that every site is saying “Yankees/Dodgers or the field?” as if baseball playoffs are even in the realm of predictability, the world champion 27-33 San Diego Padres would be a wonderfully absurd cap on the season.

    1. I still really hate that there are six divisions. I want four divisions, I want them arranged by time zone, and I want each team in each division to play the exact same schedule. If there are two teams that need to play each other, they should be in the same division.

      1. MLB spent years tinkering with things just to come up with a bizarre set of rules that don’t play nicely together. Wild cards don’t make much sense in a regular year given the unbalanced schedule and differing interleague games, but they’re much worse this year, as competing wild card hopefuls will have played NONE of the same competition.

The playoff breakdown is that teams 1-2 in each division will make it, plus two wild cards.

        1. I totally agree about the old system. I actually like this system better than the normal system in that I feel like if you don't get top 2 in your own division, I don't really have any sympathy for you -- the last two teams are kind of random but it's just to balance out the field. Of course, I really, really feel like they should have done a regional alignment for this year -- could have been four divisions, each division plays the same schedule (or at least nearly the same schedule), top two teams from each division advance, #1's play the #2's. Given a short schedule, I'd be okay with an 8-team playoff, though I'd prefer best-of-7 the whole way through.

  8. I got a tweet out there doing numbers like I've never had before, and I can feel the feel-good chemicals in my brain and definitely feel like a rat pushing a button.

      1. I’ve gone viral-ish on Quora a few times, and after a certain point, you don’t get individual notifications, but rather one notification that you got a bunch of likes. Maybe it’s the same?

  9. Governor Cuomo with important thoughts on sandwiches.

    1. Why Rice Pilaf and go really cheap with Rice a Roni

      1. This would be a funny menu except they don't understand apostrophes or capitalization. The random extra white space between the pretzel bite and milkshake is also troubling.

And we can all agree that a milkshake is not food, right? If you can "drink it up" it is a beverage, not food.
