  1. If the Twins falter, I'm all in on the Rays winning the World Series. They already won Opening Day.

      1. They're going to play their first couple of "home" games in Washington, but I don't think they have a home field for the rest of the season yet.

          1. They really are missing that opportunity. Bison(s) park wasn’t that bad of yard to see a game.

            1. I read this morning that "sources say" they're going to play in Buffalo. We'll see if it turns out to be correct.

            2. I wonder how popular the open air parking garage behind rjght field will be the summer?

  2. So sad* my company's not doing the annual hot dog lunch for opening day!

    *not actually sad

        1. I was recently thinking that in all the discussion about sandwiches we never got around to discussing optimal beer pairings...

      1. My company cancelled the summer party, nice family event. My department cancelled our "offsite" to Lake of the Woods. Definitely a little sad about that.

        1. Being on the committee with the inside info, we haven't officially canceled the summer outing, but we also haven't planned one... Xmas party is still iffy.

        2. The annual August Twins Game company outing definitely isn't happening. And that is sad, indeed.

    1. I also did very poorly (kind of gave up after about 25 questions, just clicked through quickly... got a 13 total). Was it just me, or did this feel like a very NY heavy quiz (Washington newspaper and nothing about the reigning WS Champs? ), and one designed to elicit wrong responses?

      1. Well, a lot of records are held by Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, and Giants, so that may be part of it. They're also very hard questions. I take a ton of Sporcle baseball quizzes and spend an ungodly amount of time on baseball-reference, so I'm sure that helped.

    2. 19. I actually stepped it up in the back half for whatever reason.

I read a lot of record books when I was a kid, and apparently some of it stuck.

  3. I've created a Zoom meeting for tonight's game (starting at 7PM) for anyone wanting to try it out. I'll post the info in the game log as well, but the meeting ID is 811 2200 9762, and the seven-digit password is the Twins' position in the AL Central last season repeated seven times. I've set it up as "no host", so I shouldn't have to be logged in for others to still be able to use it (although I should be logged in).

  4. We all know the Lincoln squirrel lived in Springfield, but did you know about the Lincoln man?

  5. Somehow, based off a pack of Topps Heritage that I bought him, Newbush has become completely obsessed with Ian Desmond. He says he's the best player in baseball, and wants an Ian Desmond shirt.

    1. I followed and cheered for Ken Oberkfell for years because he was the first guy I saw when I opened my first pack of baseball cards.

This kid I knew, Jason, was certain Andy Van Slyke was baseball’s best player because his name was so cool.

    2. When the Twins acquired Delmon Young my youngest daughter latched on to him as her new favorite player. I never had the heart to tell her that we should have doubted his talent. She eventually figured it out on her own.

  6. You might have seen this on Twitter but can you guess the 3rd oldest ballpark in the National League?

    1. Spoiler SelectShow
  7. So, back in March, someone must have hacked my WGOM password. I kind of tried to get back on the site, but kind of didn't because Covid. Well, the Twins were on tonight and I decided to make more than a half bakef effort in reclaiming my identity on this site. I did watch from afar quite a bit, but it killed me not to comment. How are things for me you ask? March and April kind of sucked. For a while I thought my business was done. May was a bit better, but July has shocked me. We are currently 20% over last years sales for the month. That is with about 35% seating inside due to social distancing. We added a pop up patio for more outside seating and take out is still super busy. I went from very depressed and not sure if we could make it in March to now thinking of building a kick ass expanded patio next spring. I have received a few "how you doing?" texts and facebook messages from the WGOM group and it is appreciated. I also met RhuRhu for the second time and Nibbish has checked in periodically to make sure I haven't hung myself. I remember shortly after Covid hit thinking there is an opportunity somewhere in this crisis to emerge stronger than we went in and somehow we have managed to do so. We were lucky that we played the PPP just right and kept all of our staff and built a great reputation around town with how we have handled everything. I purchased a Global Plasma System HVAC add on that helps remove virus (99.4% in 30 minutes) from our atmosphere. We are following all of the mandates from MDH. I think we are considered by far the safest place to eat in our area. I have always felt that the high road is sometimes difficult, but definitely the right path and this whole pandemic has proved that this is right. I missed you guys, and I will be around much more from now on. Thanks for all the well wishes over the past few months.

    1. As one of the resident never-sleepers, I’ll be the first to say here’s to your return.

I’m not entirely sure I know where you are (and I’m not sure if I know WHO you are, really, now that I consider it) but if I pass by whatever restaurant you’re in, I’ll say hello.

    2. Oh wait, so all that stuff that was posted from your account wasn't you?

Happy to hear the seas are calming. I may have reason to be in your area before too long, and I'll be sure to stop by.

    3. Glad to hear!

I'm hoping we have a cross country season so I can stop by for lunch this fall!

    4. Thank God, I’m so glad to hear good news for you. I really have been wondering and hoping for you. This is a day brightener.

    5. Did you get the message that I passed through for dinner about a week ago? Apparently I showed up about 10 minutes after you had left.

    6. I did forget one tidbit. The day we got shut down I decided to recommit to my health Did the Noom app thingy. I figured the stress would add 30 pounds so i did the noom app amd lost 30 pounds. Feels good.
