  1. Mrs. Runner and I had a nice long look at ISS overhead last night. I was surprised how much brighter it was than times in past years when looking at it. I guess there has been more reflective components added since then

  2. Yesterday was very therapeutic for me. After a 5 day stretch of about 70 hours at the joint I had the whole day off. Got up at 5am and made pancakes for my wife and son before they left for work. I then took a nap until 9am. Went to the golf course and played 36 holes of golf with lunch and a couple Beam lemonades mixed in there. The last hole of my last round featured my first 300 yard drive off the tee since I was about 22 years old. (Back then I sprained both thumbs playing ball and tried to golf through the injury, which ruined by swing for decades). I stopped by work as I knew my mailbox had a hefty Cares Act grant check from our county. Deposited that check and now know the business will make it through the winter no matter what happens with Covid. Lastly, I bought some thick top sirloin steaks, cooked them in my cast iron pan with some mushrooms. Served the steaks with roasted fingerling potatoes and some fresh green beans and red peppers that were sauteed in a Ghost pepper and garlic oil that I had made with peppers gifted to me by Nibbish. It was a great day!

    1. That sounds like a great day. Glad you were able to enjoy it. You were owed one of those, I think.

Glad the oil is treating you right. I was going to make some, myself, but I got lazy and roasted them and made a hot pepper powder, instead. It actually turned out better than I thought it would.

  3. 8/10. The bread is great if you eat it the day you get it at the Hong Kong market. Three days on it’s a bit old.

  4. Sadly, one of President John Tyler's two surviving grandsons recently died at age 95. The other grandson is still alive at age 91. Yes, both Presidents Tyler and Trump (the tenth and forty-fifth Presidents, respectively) have a living grandchild.

      1. Was just peeking at the genealogy there.
They were both late children of the second marriage of one of Tyler's late children from his second marriage. And born 60-some years after his Tyler's death. 60 and 70-something year-old fatherhood for a couple generations will do it. That's a whole different world.
Tyler was born during Washington's presidency!

        1. The Federal government also just stopped paying out Civil War pension benefits this summer.

A vet was 84 when he had a daughter, who then died in June at age 90. The woman, Irene Tripplet, was born with mental disabilities and qualified for benefits as a dependent.
