  1. Looks like our best shot at some rain will be on Sunday with a 77% chance. My fescues would enjoy that, they're looking rather pathetic and I can only water them every other day.

    1. I may have made an error planning the peperoncino's outdoor birthday party for Sunday afternoon!

    2. my whole lawn is looking rather pathetic....not sure how all of my neighbors are keeping theirs bright green

      1. I'm going to need to call the sprinkler company; one of the valves has water hammer loud enough at 5:38am that is sounds like someone knocking five times on the front door.

        1. I just mowed off the top of one of my irrigation heads that didn't go back all the way down. I called the place and they said they could get to it on 6/25 - natch.

      2. My lawn ended up being mowed at a really awkward time before this stretch of heat and drought, so it ended up looking comically bad - patches of long spindly stuff, patches of short dying stuff, etc. I already don't care for my long near as much as some of my neighbors. But I mowed it about a week ago, a couple days after a storm went through, just because it created a small window where I could get it looking better.

Turned out to be a brilliant move. It has stayed trim, and, for the first time ever, my lawn looks nicer than my neighbors'. It's not green, but everyone's is browning, so that's fine. It's just that it has a much nicer length and none of the weird spindly patches that everyone else has developed. I know it's a temporary mirage, but I'm happy to take it!

    3. On another note, the electric bill came yesterday and I'm still trying to work up the courage to open it.

  2. Oh man, got out for a shortish 10 mile ride today, first time in two weeks. It felt so good.

  3. So, I take some grapes out of the fridge and put them into a colander to rinse when I spot something funky on a few of them. My first thought was mold, but they're only a few day old and still really fresh and stored in a ventilated container so that didn't seem likely. I took some down to show Mrs. Twayn and she was able to identify the foreign substance right away. You guessed it, spider goo.

  4. They are taking our old fence down today. Replacing the old picket fence with a solid one to keep our dogs and the neighbor dogs from constantly going at each other through the gaps in the fence. The bad part is we will have no fence for about a week while the new fence posts cure. No more opening the back door and letting the dogs run free, going to have to leash and supervise all four on repeated potty breaks. No more just hangin' out in the backyard for the pups for awhile.

      1. Yeah, the Frenchie keeps asking to go out and then she starts panting right away and wants back in. The Bostons like to find a shady spot and stretch out for awhile.
