Better Jax than Happ from here on out.
Minor Details has been posted.
I created a monster. We will beat our weekly sales record for the 3rd week in a row, despite not being open on the 4th tomorrow. The buzz around town is crazy and I am seeing certain people visiting on that patio pretty much every day. I am soooo glad we decided to close on the 4th, as I am wiped out.
Apparently, someone called in to 107.1 in the cities and talked about how cool my joint is up here in Alexandria. So far my staff is stepping up to the challenge and are pretty jacked up about the success. I did give my entire kitchen staff a bonus on yesterdays paycheck, as well as a hefty summer bonus for my management team.
Last part of the project is almost done. My two firepits are operational, now I just need to find a few hours to assemble the lounge patio furniture I bought on line. Then I can launch that space early next week. (Watch for pics on social media - the pits are super cool!)
Congratulations!
Congrats!
Awesome!
We're looking for a weekend later this month to make a daytrip. I'll let you know when so we can get a reservation.
Yes, let me know bud!
Are you Pike and Pint?
Looking at the menu - Pike's Perch Fry looks fab. Curious, where do you source your elk meat from?
Doraisamy Farms in Garfield, which is just west of Alexandria
I’m thinking of making the pilgrimage to the great Minnesota get together this year. If so, I’ll be flying solo which means maybe I’ll be able to get to your new patio for lunch….
A three-minute read doesn't really do justice to the 36 years my brother-in-law spent working as an athletic director in Pueblo, Colorado. Rick is as nice a guy as you'll ever meet. We're mighty glad to have him in the family.
After a trip to Italy in '08, I wanted to replicate a dish I had in Umbria. Fried zucchini blossoms and sage leaves.
So I planted some zucchini, yellow squash, and sage this year, and man, has it been productive. Today I fried up a batch of zucchini/squash flowers and pickles in a flour/soda/buttermilk dredge in canola oil at med-high/high. Very tasty, with a dusting of Perfect Pinch Italian (trying to cut back on the sodium).
My brother is at a wedding tonight.* He offered his Loons tickets for me to take Honest Abe. We're thrilled to be here, but I didn't realize it was the second row behind the goal (opposite the Wonderwall). It's going to be a little stressful making sure I block any errant shots heading at Honest Abe.
*technically, he's at the traditional Cameroonian wedding tonight because the American wedding was yesterday.
Our next door neighbors are from Cameroon and hosted their daughter’s wedding reception a couple of years ago. Big tent in the front yard, the works. It was quite the party.
You can see us celebrating the first goal in the video here (I'm the guy in the royal blue Everton jersey)
Mid-evening farm report:
St. Paul leads Omaha 4-2 in the sixth. Brent Rooker hit a two-run homer, his fourteenth.
Wichita and Amarillo are scoreless in the third. Austin Schulfer is pitching for the Wind Surge.
Cedar Rapids trails Quad Cities 4-1 after six. Michael Helman hit a home run, his seventh. Kody Funderburk gave up two runs on two hits and three walks in five innings.
Fort Myers trails Bradenton 1-0 in the seventh. Louie Varland struck out nine in six innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks.
Its July 4th weekend and NBA and NHL playoffs are still going g on and I just cant get into them. Its baseball and soccer season in my mind
I watched a ton of playoff hockey but not one second of the finals. I’ve barely seen any bball playoffs but definitely interested in checking out the finals.
My older brother texted me yesterday that he was going to drive out from WI to check out the new digs at the joint. He brought his daughter and I was able to sit down and chat with him for about an hour. I had not seen him in person in over a year and a half due to his health issues and Covid risk. It was another mile marker to life getting closer to normal for me. It had a healing effect on me for sure.
