Minor Details: Games of August 8

Lewis Thorpe pitches.  Austin Martin hits.  Yunior Severino hits like a senior.  The Mighty Mussels barely hit at all.

LOUISVILLE 4, ST. PAUL 3 IN ST. PAUL

The Bats scored three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.  The Saints cut it to 4-3 with two out in the eighth, but their last four batters were retired.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs.  Drew Stankiewicz was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Lewis Thorpe pitched 2.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out one.  Jovani Moran retired all eight men he faced, striking out two.  Yennier Cano pitched a scoreless inning, walking one.  Kyle Barraclough struck out three in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Riley O'Brien pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks and striking out five.  Jay Schuyler was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-5 and is batting .327.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 and is batting .302.  Moran has an ERA of 1.80.

Bad stats:  Keon Broxton was 1-for-3 and is batting .198.  Thorpe has an ERA of 6.35.  Ralph Garza, Jr. made his Saints debut and gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning, giving him an ERA of 40.50.

Record:  The Saints are 44-39, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 3.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 5, MIDLAND 2 IN WICHITA

The Wind Surge scored four in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  Jermaine Palacios hit a two-run double in the inning.

Batting stars:  Austin Martin was 3-for-4.  Palacios was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Roy Morales was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Cole Sands struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk.  Zach Neff struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Edwin Diaz was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth.  Devin Foyle was 1-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.  Austin Briggs pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Good stats:  Martin is batting .400.  Morales is batting .300.  Sands has an ERA of 2.79.

Bad stats:  None.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 49-35, in first place in the AA Central/North, four games ahead of Tulsa.

QUAD CITIES 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

John Rave singled in a run in the seventh to break a 5-5 tie and Logan Porter homered for an insurance run in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Yunior Severino was 4-for-5.  Wander Javier was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, his tenth.

Pitching stars:  Osiris German struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Derek Molina pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Seuly Matias was 3-for-4 with a home run (his tenth), two runs, and three RBIs.  Maikel Garcia was 3-for-5.  Michael Massey was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Starter:  Cody Laweryson struck out three in 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Severino is batting .390.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-3 in his High-A debut and is batting .333.  Erik Manoah, Jr. allowed two runs in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.86,

Bad stats:  Laweryson has an ERA of 5.79.

Record:  The Kernels are 45-39, in second place in the High-A Central/West, twelve games behind Quad Cities.

DUNEDIN 3, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

The Blue Jays scored single runs in the third, fourth, and eighth.  The Mighty Mussels had just one hit.

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching stars:  Matt Canterino struck out two in two perfect innings.  Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out six in four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  Aaron Rozek pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Naswell Paulino struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks.  Riley Tirotta was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Addison Barger was 2-for-4 with a home run (his thirteenth) and two runs.

Good stats:  Canterino made his Mighty Mussels debut and has an ERA of zero.  Rozek has an ERA of 2.50.

Bad stats:  Nick Anderson was 0-for-2 and is batting .167.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .181.  Misael Urbina was 0-for-4 and is batting 193.  Will Holland was 0-for-2 and is batting .195.
