First organic exam of the semester today. I've had multiple students tell me they are extra nervous because it's the first in-person college exam they've ever taken. Organic is almost all sophomores and juniors, so that's not a usual concern.
It's not the test or the in person that has them nervous, it's you, Mr. Daunting.
All I ask is that at least one of them breaks down in tears. Does that make me a monster?
You're a teacher! Do you even have to ask that question?
btw, started reading new book Dare to Know recently. Kinda a combination of the movies In Time and Enemy, where a scientist discovers a subatomic particle that is entangled with human lives, and allows people trained to work with them to know when someone will die. Although now it appears something isn't right. So far it's a page-turner.
Also, I got a handful of pages into new book All-Consuming World and gave up -- it just never caught me.
I once got a Rate My Professor comment saying that I enjoy making students cry.
My kids love to read my brother's Rate My Professor reviews to him.
Have you watched The Chair on Netflix? I'm three episodes in.
I'm currently chair, and my wife will almost certainly be chair in her department in the next 2 years, so I sort of figured it was required viewing for us.
I enjoyed it. There are some parts that are completely unrealistic, but others that feel very, very familiar.
Bob Dylan, Prince land several tunes on Rolling Stone's list of 500 greatest songs of all time Jon Bream has been a music critic at the Star Tribune since 1975, making him the longest tenured pop critic at a U.S. daily newspaper. He has attended more than 8,000 concerts and written four books (on Prince, Led Zeppelin, Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan). Thus far, he has ignored readers’ suggestions that he take a music-appreciation class.
Har!
I just want to know how many Suburbs songs landed. I'm thinking "Black Leather Stick," "Goggles On" and "Cows" all belong in the top ten, making In Combo the greatest debut album of all time.
Cats, a memoir.
So, we had Lenny and Ralphie spend a little more time with Theo last night. Theo has never, ever, ever growled or hissed in his entire life. Never. Until yesterday. So, it didn't go great, but not terrible, either. I think they will eventually come to an understanding. At lunch today, I sat with Theo on the couch and petted him as the other two came downstairs. He tensed up, but didn't move. They were no closer than about 10 feet away and then we took them out. This will be a slow process, I'm afraid. Poor Theo. It's now Lenny and Ralphie's world and he's unfortunately just living in it. I'd be grouchy, too.
As they become accustomed to this being home, they are calming down a little. Ralphie is more friendly than I first thought, probably about where Jags was as a kitten. Lenny is off the charts friendly. I walked into the room today and he immediately got up, walked toward me and meowed, demanding some attention. He cannot get enough petting. We've hit a homerun with these two.

So they say Chanhassen is not so bad.
