October 30, 2021: Emergency Room Blues

Just getting back not too long before this posts from the `mergency room. Apparently just a rapidly spiking fever and a miserable kid. All tests negative. I'll take it.

  1. AFL report:

    Scottsdale 6, Glendale 5.

Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-4 with a walk. He is batting .235.
Michael Helman was 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs. He is batting .250.
Evan Sisk struck out two in a perfect inning. His ERA is 14.40.

  2. Off shortly for a long weekend in Nashville -- nothing fully planned, just going to wander and take in the scene. Hopefully plenty of wandering Broadway and the downtown area -- should be fun

  3. Upgrade complete. So far no arm soreness, which I hope stays away because it was the only side effect I had from the Moderna shots, but it was extremely sore.

    1. Yeah, you all convinced me to finally go set up my re-up. I'd be fine with waiting my turn a bit, but there were nothing but open reservation slots.

      1. The shots aren't as popular as they once were. There were only two nurses working at the vaccine clinic at the hospital I went to and only one other person there getting one. But also, I'm in the high risk category because of the 'beetus, though, so I didn't have any issues with getting it right away. Also, the nice part about the booster is that you can leave right after getting it.

  4. So both the wife and I had sluggishness on Friday (after Pfizer update on Thursday), and a little sorearm-ness but nothing today. Craving to make clams casino tonite, but I don't think that's COVID. Bought some littleneck clams in Wethersfield + red bell peppers and Italian parsley - just need garlic and breadcrumbs. NBBW got me Nueske's bacon for my birthday so we're set there.

      1. So there was a lot of clam juice left over from broiling the littlenecks. Need to find a way to utilize that as i know it's a big Itai cuisine elemental.

  5. This last weekend, I gave out candy to approx. 500-700 inner-city kids at the Dunkin' Donuts park (think Yard Goats). This lady at the table next to me (in the context of supply chain) said that if I hadn't already gotten a turkey for Thanksgiving, to forget about it. Really?

    1. Our local grocer says turkey for Thanksgiving is doable, but turkey for Christmas is pretty doubtful.

  6. I apparently dislocated my knee cap at work about a month and a half ago. I was fine, walking around. Biking. Danced my face off at a wedding and then my knee swole up and nearly immobilized me two weeks ago. My employer is totally understanding and is working with workers comp to get me diagnosed and on the path to recovery. Swelling is down and rom is back, but now I’m dealing with third party adjusters because litigious society. Doc says, you got some old knees for your age….

Not what I wanted to hear.

  7. Politics aside, the chop is really, really gross. Including politics, the chop is really, truly, absolutely the grossest.

    1. The obnoxiousness of Atlanta fans in ‘91 simultaneously made me hate the Chop and throttled any appreciation I might have felt at the time for the team’s dynastic run. There were some all-time greats on that team, and I never really enjoyed them in their primes. TBS made Atlanta baseball ubiquitous, which made the Chop inescapable seemingly every postseason for 14 years. I knew the Chop was egregious well before I had a political conversion.
