  1. My grandmother died early yesterday morning after a sharp decline. Like many of her age or in her circumstances, the forced isolation from COVID was really hard on her, and I suspect a small stroke went undetected during that time and began creating unhealthy cognitive loops that she struggled to deal with on her own. In June she was preparing to move from assisted living to a memory care home. On her last night in assisted living, she somehow fell in the bathroom and broke her shoulder despite the required NA being present with her. She loved to a nursing home with a good PT program, but despite their efforts, her PT was not successful. Late last week she began having difficulty speaking and swallowing, so it was clear to me we were reaching the end. I’m grateful I was able to have the best visit I’ve had with her in years on her birthday, which caused me to miss zooomx’s caucus. We were very close; she took care of me through my earliest years while my mom was completing her undergrad. She was a smart & independent, a no-nonsense pathbreaker, dedicated caregiver, and all-around indelible presence. I hope the Poissonnière takes after her.

    1. Sorry for your loss, and thanks for sharing a bit of her with us. Sounds like a life well-lived.

    2. Reading her obituary, I can tell she was a very special person and anchor in her household - and a life well-lived. May her memory be a blessing.

      1. That is a beautiful sentiment, and sounds like it was well deserved. Sorry for your loss.

  2. If you are looking for a sports fix tonight the Loons are hosting Everton and the match can be seen on ESPN+ (outside of whatever is determined as the MNUFC home market)
