  1. A few years back, Runner daughter and I took our friend (choir director) to They Might Be Giants concert, and he's come through with tix for us to see Weird Al (and Emo Phillips!) with him on Sunday night. Noice

      1. I saw Weird Al in the 80's open for the Monkees at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. I still remember his version of "Living in America" ("Living with a Hernia")

        1. Weird Al's concert is definitely one of the more memorable ones I've ever attended. Through a family member who got to know his drummer (Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz), we ended up with backstage passes, and I got Weird Al's autograph on a paper "restrooms" sign that I had ripped off the wall. That seemed somehow appropriate.

I love that my kids now love Weird Al, as much as I did at their age.

            1. IIRC, he (Yankovic) and Jackson were romantically linked at one point. She's in his movie UHF. But you knew that, because you once told me to "take that ridiculous thing off" via appropriate gif.

    1. TMBG are playing back to back nights in the cities: First Ave the the Fitz. I wonder how many bands have ever done that circuit before?

    2. Weird Al always makes me flash back to listening to Dr. Demento in college (Sunday nights at 11). But that's a real good flashback.

    3. My kids are Weird Al fans because of Polka Face and polka fans because of Polka Face.

      1. American drug laws are such bull shit.

Also, driving around with loaded(?) handguns is not very bright.

        1. Legally purchased and registered in his name. And it's Texas. The only reason the guns were a problem is because he was "engaged in a criminal act" by possessing a weed cart. I'm not saying that makes it better or worse, it just is.

          1. I wasn't questioning whether he had a legal right to the firearms. I was making a general comment.

        2. It’s too bad he isn’t from New Mexico and this traffic stop didn’t happen there. He’ll face sincerely more strict punishment for weed possession in Texas.

  2. Julio Rodriguez is getting paid in an unusual contract. Passan has a thread about it:

There's a club option that is for either eight or ten years, depending on MVP finishes. But, there's also a player option that can be exercised for five years.

  3. I would like an app that presents a ballgame's starting time in the app user's time zone, or maybe in the home team's time zone, and not some arbitrary time zone out east that represents neither visiting or home team's or the app user's time zone.

  4. A hard day here today, as a local student died in an accident. She would be starting 2nd grade on Tuesday, and we all saw her the other night at the open house. She was helping serve the meal, and I was joking around with her (Her: "What kind of cookie do you want?" Me: "Round." Her: "That is not funny."). What a punch in the gut.
