May 1, 2023: Out There

I'm in a weird space where one of those things I've always wanted is kind of right in front of me. Thinking about it though, I'm not really sure if I should do it.

Heh, this is vague enough to be a Spooky CoC.

  1. We are enjoying a Minnesota-ish stretch of spring. Last week, highs were in the low-90s. Today, the high is supposed to be 63. I'm wearing a sweatshirt.

  2. I'm getting to spend some (virtual) time in the Twin Cities adjusting BNSF tracks in our network on the Wayzata subdivision (runs just north of U of M and Target Field) and Midway subdivision (runs north along the Mississippi). Messy, but a lot better looking now.

  3. Heading down to Minneapolis on Thursday to spend some time with Sysco on some new products coming out. I am bringing my Executive Chef from the joint and the Kitchen Manager of the brewery food joint I consult on. We want to eat a nice lunch somewhere downtown Minneapolis that has a cool patio and a diverse chef-driven menu. Looking for recommendations from you all. (BTW- Thank you freealonzo for the St. Paul recommendations a couple weeks ago!)

    1. My objectives for the meal are to 1) thank my chefs for some very hard work 2) check out urban food trends and techniques 3) check out a quality patio or rooftop operation.

  4. So I'm on the Libby app to see if there are any interesting books on tape to check out from the library and after using some filters ... I stumble upon Michael K. Williams's memoir. Ok I'm not planning to checking it out but what was interesting to me was the book ahead of it in popularity on the app was written by Rex Ogle (which still can't be a real name).

    1. I use Libby all the time to grab something to read on my phone when I travel. Except for a little stubbornness when I try to use it one-handed and turn pages with my thumb, it works great.

    2. I picked up audiobooks about a year ago and have been happily consuming them since after years of ignoring literature almost entirely.

Very cool about Rex. We lost contact a few months after that game, as is usually the case with those I don’t know going in, but he was cool and he sent my kids a bunch of Minecraft books when they were huge into it.

I picked up physical copies of the comedic mystery series my college friend Randy Funk has been writing, and was surprised to see - though I shouldn’t have been - that the dedication in the book about pro wrestling was to me.
