May 20, 2023: East St. Louis Toodle-Oo

I'm thinking that I might head to St. Louis when the Twins are there. The older boy will be with his Grandpa, so I could take the younger one. Lots of good suggestions in yesterday's CoC.

  1. I have been so busy fixing up my golf course after the flood that I completely blocked out its PGA Championship weekend.

    Go Scottie Scheffler!

    1. He may sign somewhere, or he may not. He hasn't had a good season since 2020, and hasn't had a good full season since 2018. It's entirely possible this may be it for him.

        1. Yeah, the prices are high, but it is what it is. Now there’s another option in the neighborhood.

It’s kind of funny to me that Minnesota is going to turn the tables on Wisconsin for all that business the old Sunday liquor sales ban sent driving across the river.

          1. We got some gummies on our Colorado trip, they were about half the cost and twice the potency of the MN hemp-derived edibles. Can't say without a baseline for comparison, but the flower prices seemed kind of high. As did the staff.

  2. Just got back from Cambridge, I found a 2006 Hyundai Tucson AWD with only 165,000 miles on it up there. Black exterior, black and grey leather interior, heated seats, sunroof, remote start, 2.7L V6 plant, trailer hitch, pretty well appointed with the limited trim package for a 2006 model. There will be some work to do -- replacing the lift struts on the rear glass, servicing the A/C (no cold air), a new radio (it works, but I'd like to add Bluetooth), new tires before winter, and a few other odds and ends. The oil pan gasket appears to be leaking a bit (no oil above, though) so I'll replace that first time I change the oil. Anyway, it was too late to close the deal today because banks so I'm going back on Monday to complete the transaction. They don't do trade-ins, but Isanti Auto Parts will pay $500 for any running vehicle so my salesman is going to line that up for me, which is nice since it's actually over book value. All told I'm paying $6,000 including taxes, title transfer, license and other fees. Minus the van and it will be about $5,500. I'll pay $1,000 down and finance the rest for 3 years so payments will be around $125/month. Big Blue has been a great minivan for the past 9 years and has more than earned it's trip to the pasture.

    1. Daym. Good luck on the projects. I’m about to replace the head unit on my 2017 Subaru forester because the desire to have apple play / android connectivity. A bit of a process that may require a rear camera upgrade but all for the better driving experience.
