  1. I saw a deer sliding in my lane towards me this morning after getting smoked by a car. Watch for deer everyone!

      1. I had briefly turned my gaze to, coincidentally, scan for deer and when I looked back ahead I was very confused as to why there was a deer laying in the middle of the road, then more confused when I realized it was sliding towards me in my lane. Fortunately I had plenty of time to slow down and avoid it. Also fortunately my dash cam was running, so I'll have to check the tape when I get home to see how it happened.

    1. They've also had him batting cleanup.

But he hits the ball hard! That BABIP is due for a reversion!

  2. News just broke that the PGA and LIV Golf have merged. This news is somewhat bonkers, considering how much time the two rival tours have spent sniping at each other. Also somewhat notable in that a lot of the main golfers on tour didn't seem to realize that anything of the sort was in the works.

There's obviously blood money just about everywhere, whether in sports, or other arenas, but LIV is just so upfront about it. A lot of the higher level players on tour were offered pretty big sums of money to go play on LIV and for a variety of reasons, refused it. I would imagine they'll remember this in the future when anything might test their loyalty.

    1. Hunter Mahan was just on the Sirius Golf Channel. He thinks all players AND Greg Norman were unaware of the negotiations, much less agreement. He also said that a lot of players are going to be pretty pissed off that they said no to protect the history of the game and the PGA Tour blinked.

My own feelings are that if you removed the Saudi shadow lurking over this agreement, it will be good for the players and probably good for golf's popularity in the world. However, something about this whole thing just feels nasty.

      1. I hope that the European Tour becomes more integrated into the PGA and that it does become more of a "world game". I have zero interest in a "team" version of the PGA. I hate that it gives the LIV trolls any sort of win, much less an unequivocal one.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out, but it's annoying how money just wins. Also, feeling this....

    2. Millionaires fighting with billionaires (trillionaire?).

I am having a hard time caring.

      1. People with one to three orders of magnitude more money than me versus people with four to eight orders of magnitude more money. I get it and don't blame you but one group is a lot closer to my situation and this isn't a one-off event. It's part of a trend of reputation laundering and I don't like any of it.

        1. The whole thing makes me think of Akufo from Ted Lasso, and there's no reason anyone should be siding with that guy.

    1. For all you juvenile's out there, this was comment #420069 according to the comment counter that pops up.

  3. My mountain is advancing the rest of my pre-retirement career in a way that I'd prefer vs. joining the Tech corporate march and becoming a Java code jockey, something someone straight out of college is a better candidate for. With the security lockdowns and constantly evolving IDE and change management*, those of us for instance programming in Pro*C directly on the Linux server are getting pushed out to "something else." That said, so far I haven't been forced into anything that stifles my work satisfaction, but I'm hoping to leverage my experience for the next 2-3 years more as a data steward than an interchangeable cog.

    1. Navigating work at the end of a career is always hard. Everyone wants to go out on their own terms but many don't true by their own choice.

I still think we should expand Medicare to 60. If employers aren't going to hire those over 60, they should be able to opt in to Medicare.

      1. Your second point is a good one. A whole lot of people are ready to retire now but have to hang on due to the medical expense insecurities.

I'm not planning to go gently or rage into that good night, but I'll certainly continue to make sure my work value in the areas I deem most useful is proving worthwhile.

      2. Medicare for all as a public option to private, employer-subsidized healthcare would be even better. Let's really make medical insurance portable so entrepreneurs can leave their jobs to launch businesses and people don't have to be healthcare slaves to the private sector.

        1. People underestimate how true that is. Health insurance holds back a lot of small start-ups.

          1. My law practice would not exist but-for the public coverage options (including
newer marketplaces) that we have now.

      3. How about we just adopt Medicare for All, then? That way it covers not just those who face employment discrimination, but contractors, small business owners and their employees, seasonal workers, non-profit workers, and the self-employed.

Access to healthcare should not be predicated on having a job. It’s a human right.

      1. That was a nice way for you to celebrate my birthday, NBB. Let me know yours and I'll try to return the favor in a few years. Salud!

        1. Hope you had a happy birthday!

My birthday is the same as Theo. Roosevelt - 10/27.
