200 hits is always a tough one for me. It's not so much "Did they have a high batting average," but did they play 155+ games and not walk so damn much
I try to think of old timers for those. Everyone good pre-integration had sky-high batting averages and never walked.
With the exceptions of some of the all-time greats, who walked a lot and still got 200 hits because they had averages near .400

an Effectively Wild listener has found a set of 19 players that can answer every possible team combo on the grid. Memorizing that would sure would be one way to suck the joy out of playing
I was just having this conversation on bluesky about what the smallest set possible was.
We figured theoretically it was 18, but hadn't worked out the actual answer. I'll have to bring this to the thread. Thanks, beau!
Well, considering there's no more than six team combos in a given day, couldn't the answer theoretically be six if you had six players play for every single team?
Or was your theory based on real life data?
Well our first assumption was 3 x 3 teams, no stats, so 9 team combos.
From there, we capped the teams played as the MLB record of 14 by Edwin Jackson (eliminating your 6 guys option)
We assumed there'd have to be 2 options for every team combo, so 18 players, but were then working backwards from there to see if it was possible to reduce with carefully arranged combos.
Here's the spreadsheet that lists the players (check the Players tab). The players on it that were former Twins: Mike Morgan, Rich Hill, LaTroy Hawkins, Tyler Clippard, Bartolo Colon, Fernando Rodney, Terry Mulholland, and Dan Schatzeder.
I'll cop to memorizing LaTroy's resume and enjoying when I get to plug him in to the grid.
I generally just guess Bartolo Colon if I'm stuck and know he was on one of the teams. There is a decent chance he was on the other

I’m still lousy at it.
I feel like this game will get old quickly as they reuse different combinations.
