The scenes out of Maui are absolutely horrible - what a tragic situation. Mrs Runner and I have a vacation planned there next year, but that can all be cancelled and the inconvenience doesn't even compare to the loss of life and sickening damage the residents and businesses are dealing with.
I had golf league last night with my buddy Billy (who used to work with me at the old joint). He is from Boston, but lived on Maui for about 10 years before marrying an Alexandria girl and moving to the frozen tundra. He was very distraught last night during league as digested the news and waited to hear back from friends on the island. Horrific situation.
That was a Gardyesque rant, and Boone was not wrong.
Boone will be disciplined, and he should be, but Diaz should be disciplined, too. That's not the way an umpire is supposed to defuse a situation.
After all us kids finished Little League my dad started umpiring. He used to say you can't do the job if you don't grow an alligator skin.
I wrote this before all the ridiculous shenanigans.
