I'm excited to see that the flag replacement is a real thing; MN flag really does need a simplification. St. Louis city flag adopted in 1964 is a real winner, and proves you can do great things with a splash of color and the right design that makes it readily identifiable from a distance.
Glendale closed out its season with a loss to the Surprise Saguaros, 6-4. Kala'i Rosario was 0-for-4 with a walk. Andrew Cossetti was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second. Jordan Carr pitched three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five.
Glendale closes out its season with a record of 12-18, in sixth (last) place, seven games behind Surprise.
Aaron Sabato batted .215/.320/.585 with seven home runs and ten RBIs in 65 at-bats.
Kala'i Rosario batted .213/.333/.483 with seven home runs, sixteen RBIs, and three stolen bases in 89 at-bats.
Andrew Cossetti batted .103/.278/.310 with two home runs, five RBIs and one stolen base in 29 at-bats.
A. J. Labas was 0-0, 0.00, 1.75 WHIP with four walks and five strikeouts in four innings.
Jordan Carr was 1-1, 2.57, 1.00 WHIP with three walks and fourteen strikeouts in twenty-one innings.
Zach Veen was 0-0-, 4.50, 1.13 WHIP with one walk and five strikeouts in eight innings.
Ben Ethridge was 1-0, 8.10, 1.35 WHIP with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Malik Barrington was 0-0, 8.53, 1.58 WHIP with seven walks and ten strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
I am sooooo mad I missed the official submission deadline.
The fly of the flag (the edge away from the pole) is cut in a shape reminiscent of the state border. (the black isn't there)
A light blue sky over a dark blue lake, with a green triangle represents the pine forests. The North Star is placed over Itasca, showing the headwaters of the Mississippi.
Looks to me like the green represents the fields of the Red River Valley ... which I also like. Itasca needs to move to about as far from the left border as you have it from the right, though.
Re: Itasca
I was torn between the State being really stretched East-West, or if the left half of the flag was the Dakotas. This way goes with the Dakotas theory, because putting the star too close to the green looked cluttered.
But if we don't want to acknowledge ND and SD, we can just skip out mentioning the Itasca part.
I designed this one a number of years ago. A modified swallowtail seems like a mandatory consideration. I wasn’t able to make the negative space of the tail transparent, so it may show up white depending on the background.
Love it!
I've been checking them out, and while I like a lot of them, I feel like I like them not-necessarily-as-flags. Lots of nice designs, but a lot of them feel like they're for a parks and rec office or something.
As I've mentioned me mentioning before, my standard for groovy flags is Chicago. Simple design, looks cool as hell. I like some of these submissions, but I haven't seen anything that really pops.
Chicago, Indy, DC, and Tulsa are all excellent city flags
The flag of the People’s Republic is not merely a flag, but also a rudimentary map.
The home town HS 9-man team is back in the MN state semis again. They've had good results once they finally were in a class befitting the enrollment numbers.
Just a quick note for anyone interested: Jelle's Marble League 2023 is up and running (and has been for a while... more than half done).
Team Momo finally got a medal in the last event I watched, so that was good!
They still do one Olympics and one grand prix circuit per year? Same announcer?
Same announcer. I don't watch the grand prix circuit, but it seems like they still do that too. Just the one Olympics (but not "Olympics" because the IOC is notoriously litigious about that name).
Anybody interested in Jason Isbell tickets at the Palace for face value? Sunday, March 3. 2 tickets.
That was quick. They just went on sale today and presale yesterday. I may be interested but won't know for a while. Circle back in February if you haven't sold them.
Sounds good.
My wife accidentally bought Sunday tickets on the presale and then bought Saturday tickets today.
There's a reason that she likes me to be the one to buy tickets.
Didn't something similar happen with another concert?
Grumble!
DAMNIT, I'll be out of town.
A friend of mine made a very salient point about this flag business: If they don't incorporate a loon, they've failed.
I like the one that is a red and white state outline bobber.
I like many of the loon flags but it's too complex of a shape for a flag.
yeah, i lean towards simple, though something in the vein of california’s flag would be amusing.
Here's my 5 minute "sketch".
I don't think I agree with that at all. Most of the loon designs are exactly the problem I was mentioning above - they're cool designs, but not for flags. And forcing something into the flag is how you end up with the type of thing we had before.
someone on the bookface pointed out one that had two ducks...and a third, grey duck. 🙂
F159
Naz Reid in the original home white Timberwolves kit.
there , flag problem solved.
I was thinking more along the lines of a North Stars jersey with "F U Norm Green" as the state motto.
🤣🤣🤣
I still don't understand how Wemby works as a human being, let alone an elite basketball player.
The tournament courts are so much worse live.
Winning ugly, sign of a good team
And despite some utterly embarrassing officiating that was clearly making calls late for gambling reasons.
F18 has real possibilities as a seal instead of a flag. I would put a baby loon on the loon's back, however.
