January 12, 2024: Shut `Er Down

We're supposed to get enough snow today that they already canceled school last night. Work might have done the same in the past, but as we're in a WFH world they'll likely just say WFH yo.

  1. I'm seriously considering a 10-day trip in July 2025 to sing in Stockholm and Uppsala, Sweden. We'd be singing John Rutter's Requiem and Magnificat as well as Faure's Requiem, and the kicker would be singing under John Rutter himself. I'm hoping to retire in April of that year, or else this would never happen. Trips like this are typically a cash grab, but the trip includes several site seeing arrangements and a lot of open time, so I'm giving it more attention than I normally would have. If I played my cards right, I could combine it with a couple days visit with my cousins in Hässleholm as well. Gotta dream, right?

  2. My UCLA buddy/Doyer fan notes that the Doyer's made a pair of righteous dude transactions a couple days ago:

    *Trading for Jackson Ferris
    *Re-signing Walker Buehler

  3. Wonder if someone here remembers because Google has been no help. I seem to remember back in 2006 the Twins had Ruben Sierra. And I remember he was cut from the roster while a plane ride home because Gardy was fed up with him. He was brought in for veteran leadership and didnt provide that.

    1. I don't know about being cut on the plane ride, but the Twins did have Ruben Sierra in 2006. He was mostly injured, didn't hit in the fourteen games he played, and was released in July.

    2. Is getting cut on the plane better or worse than getting fired and left on the tarmac a la Lane Kiffin at USC?

    3. meanwhile I fondly remember Batista being cut shortly after he jumped up and down at home plate after a walk-off (by someone else).
