  1. Dick Bremer wearing a Newcastle United tie. It looks sharp on him

and sadly, the highlight of this game so far.

      1. I'm glad nobody was around to witness me screwing up like that. Boy, that would have been embarrassing.

  2. Pelfrey is so frigging mediocre. He's only managed to throw about 5 innings per start this year. He's got a 5.32 ERA (78 ERA+), a 1.578 WHIP, and 65 Ks to 38 BBs. And he's been good for -15 RAA and -1.5 WAA. And we get all that for the paltry sum of $4 million. On the bright side, he may not collect any bonus money, which starts kicking in at 150 IP.

      1. I was going to go peruse Correia's numbers, too, but I'll save that for another time when I want to get depressed.

  3. had a discussion about Morneau at work today. My boss was worried about the whole 'Morneau clearing waivers so the Twins are going to trade him now' situation. ( personally, I hate this time of the baseball year).

Morneau is his favorite Twin, one of the reasons is because he drove by his house one day (Morneau's wife is from neighboring Lake Crystal and they built a house on the shores one of the lakes.) and he thought it was pretty cool the a big famous ballplayer would live there instead of one of the swank suburbs.

I thought that was an interesting take on things.

    1. London Fletcher lived about four houses from us, and that is cool, but he wasn't here more than a year before he left for the Bills. We still like him.

    2. that story makes him sound like a total rube, but he isnt. I actually enjoy talking Twins with him.
We are all allowed at least 1 irrational favorite player reason.

      1. Irrational favorite players are one of the fun things about being a fan. It helps, though, if you realize it is irrational, and that the fact that you like someone doesn't make him a better player.

        1. But what if he was at least a better option than the players that actually were on the team?

  4. I hate Hawk drooling all over Mauer. It's like listening to a guy you don't like talking about a girl you like.

    1. has Hawk brought up Brad Radke yet? I think he is his all time favorite Twins player.

      1. I haven't heard that yet. He used to have a cutaway of Bert every series and talk about how much he needed to be in the Hall of Fame.

Hawk says basically the same sorts of things every time the Twins play the Sox, and one part in the first game is always devoted to objectifying Mauer and talking about his high school sports prowess.

        1. I probably said this before, but I actually dont mind Hawk Harrelson.
but if I had to listen to him everyday (or like 3 of 7 days) I would go nuts.

          1. I'm sortof with you.
            He is what he is.
The constant need of the Twins broadcasters to follow the company(?) narrative rubs me wrong in a different way.
Has the radio side of this diminished with Provus?

            1. I think it has, but I seem to get Dazzle way more than Provus when I have to radio the game. So I avoid the radio when possible.

                1. I'm enjoying the new option for listening to radio on the MLB.tv app for the Roku. I listen to Provus and then switch to DicknBert when Dazzle is doing pbp.

                2. I liked the old system better, too, but I actually think Dazzle has improved since Provus came along.

  5. My wife made homemade pretzel dogs last night and I've had like three of them today. I'll post the recipe for y'all, they are sooooo awesome. They're the perfect food with a cold beer.

      1. I ready through it today, and I agree. And there's no way they'll get the review times down to 1:15.

        1. I was surprised there was no clause allowing the Yankees to buy extra challenges if they run out.

          1. Final details yet to be worked out.
I assume that when the Twins play the Yankees, Girardi will be able to get the crew to discuss and overturn a reviewable call without using a challenge, while Gardy will be charged his challenge for complaining that Girardi shouldn't have been able to do that.

Video evidence will show that the original call was right, but that Angel had his back to the play.

To quote myself on this rule change:

            Dread.

  6. One of my co-workers played minor league baseball with Konerko. He informed me that Paulie tore up low A ball.

  7. If Dick says anything about the productive out setting up that run, I'm going to drink more beer.

  8. Dick and Bert talking up Roenicke, who is 0.5 WAA and 0.8 WAR on the season. Considering how bad he sucked in April and May, I guess he's shown improvement. But he's nothing to brag about.

    1. Doubles by Clete are rare gems that really should be cherished.
Pedro was so in awe of the double that he forgot he was at bat until the first pitch was almost to the plate, and did the best that his instincts allowed him.

    1. See he hit a double tonight, unlike that selfish homer he hit yesterday.
Today he might have started a rally to take the lead.

  9. Replay shows clearly safe.

Also Hawk takes back his criticism of the ump's positioning.

    Mind blown.

    1. I think I understand now.

I hope Hawk not complaining about a close call going against the Sox and praising the umpires needs to go on one of those mlb.com "Must-C" highlights. "Must-C: Curiosity"

  10. I'm praying for one here.

Earl Weaver, full of grace, blessed art thou among managers and blessed is the fruit of thy strategy, the three run homer.

        1. Looks like Delmon had 47 dingers with the Twins over four years. Arcia has 10 so far this year.

  11. Alright, that Punto-esque bunt by Clete is my breaking point. Free Mastroanni. Free Hicks. Free Buxton. I don't care. Team Anyone But Clete.

    1. agreed. Im sure Mr Thomas is a fine gentleman, but Im kind of sick of seeing him playing everyday.

    2. Thomas with more hits and bases tonight than any Twin except Plouffe!.
Be happy he's not leading off.

  12. I gotta be honest, I have never seen this kind of ruling before.

Clete bunts, drops his bat and the bat hits the ball (in fair territory). Its still a fair ball. huh

  13. I know I've said this before, but I love these games where we toy with the White Sox, let them think they have a chance to win, then take the game away at the end. We're still on track for 97-65!
