Dominican Digest: Games of 12/4

Good days for Twins players.  An extra-inning win for Licey.  Danny Santana starts a big rally for Aguilas.

LICEY 4, ESTE 1 IN ESTE (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 2-for-4.

Licey:  Emilio Bonifacio (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Anderson Hernandez was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Yunesky Maya pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Este:  Claudio Vargas pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  A sacrifice fly put Licey on the board in the fourth.  An error tied it at one in the fifth.  It remained tied until the tenth, when Bonifacio hit a two-run triple and later scored on a single by Hernandez.  Este got the tying run up to bat with two out in the bottom of the tenth.

ESCOGIDO 6, CIBAO 1 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice.

Cibao:  Maikel Franco (Philadelphia) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Carlos Frias (Dodgers) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Escogido:  Miguel Olivo (Seattle) was 2-for-3 with two runs.  Pedro Ciriaco (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two.  Carlos Pimentel (Cubs) struck out seven with six shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

The game:  Escogido broke a scoreless tie in the third as their first six batters reached base.  Erik Gonzalez had an RBI single, Ciriaco had a two-run double, and a sacrifice fly plated the fourth run.  Franco homered in the top of the seventh to put Cibao on the board, but Escogido got two in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

AGUILAS 13, ORIENTE 4 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his second).

Oriente:  Josh Whitesell was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his second.  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

Aguilas:  Hector Luna was 2-for-3 with two walks and a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Andy Marte was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Francisco Pena (Kansas City) was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.

The game:  Santana led off the first with a home run, starting a six-run rally.  Luna hit a two-run homer in the inning and Pena hit a two-run double.  Oriente never got closer than six runs.
