Twins: Jon Velasquez (Santurce) pitched one inning, giving up one run on no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Ponce: Ivan DeJesus was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Yuki Egarashi struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and five walks.
Santurce: Christian Vazquez (Boston) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double. Adron Chambers was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Joseph Colon (Cleveland) struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.
The game: It was scoreless through eight. In the top of the ninth, a walk, a stolen base, a ground out, and a wild pitch put Ponce ahead 1-0. In the bottom of the ninth, a single, a walk, and a two-out, two-run double by Jonathan Rodriguez (St. Louis) gave Santurce the victory.
MAYAGUEZ 14, CAROLINA 2 IN MAYAGUEZ
Twins: Jorge Fernandez (Carolina) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his fifth), driving in three. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk and three runs. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Dereck Rodriguez (Mayaguez) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Carolina: Ruben Gotay was 1-for-1 with two walks. Carlos Moncrief (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jesus Feliciano was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs.
Mayaguez: Roberto Perez (Cleveland) was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one. Randy Ruiz was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Hiram Burgos (Milwaukee) struck out four in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks.
The game: Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but it was their only lead of the game. Mayaguez got two in the bottom of the first, two more in the third, one in the fourth, and put it away with three in the fifth. Vargas hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Carolina scored one more in the sixth, but Mayaguez quashed any thoughts they might have had about a comeback with a five-run bottom of the sixth.
