  1. I keep thinking that if they're going to wear these obnoxious Stars & Stripes hats, then they might as well go for the red, white, and blue pinwheel panel look of the Expos' original hats.

  2. I mis-heard Bob Kurtz and thought for a second he had said that Barry White was coaching first base for the Twins.

  4. I think its safe to say Cuddy is really taking to this whole All-Star idea.

    1. I think it's funny how great an all-star choice he is from a roster construction standpoint. Plays anywhere and destroys lefties. Perfect reserve.

      1. Wow, destroys lefties even more than I realized. .510 wOBA before that last dinger.

  5. btw, thanks to sean for covering my butt. I totally battey'd that today was a monday (despite having gotten the book post up).

      1. xactly. I got up knowing I hadn't done the book post, but it's already about a thousand degrees out. My brains are steaming.

      1. Sitting in my living room, sweating. I may have to listen to the rest of this one in my canoe. Nice day to float the upper Miss.

        1. Sitting in my living room relaxing in the cool, air conditioned air after a hard day of weeding with a few Grain Belts next to me.

          1. how many weeds did the Grain Belts pull?

I have nine of a twelver of New Belgiums on ice for a late afternoon BBQ party -- Ranger IPA, Mothership Wit and the summer seasonal.

            1. Ooo, I had that seasonal the other day. Very lemony. Great hot weather beer.

            2. They did more than their share.

Speaking of bbq'ing, I'm attempting my first beer can chicken this evening. I can't wait.

              1. Yum. It's a really nice technique. Be sure to oil the can before inserting it -- even so, it may be difficult to extract.

                1. Thanks for that advice, I don't think any recipes mentioned that sort of thing.

I decided to stuff it with this, instead of anything crappy.

                  1. I hope you drank most of that. The liquid in the can really doesn't add much/any flavor.

    1. watching the game and listening to the neighbor light of firecrackers

  6. This is my 4th year of MLB.tv and while I am very happy with and impressed with the picture quality and the additions made over the years - why can't they realize that watching the same 2 commercials over and over again for an entire season is very counterproductive to the product/service being advertised?

    1. I haven't been using my subscription much, but I've never seen a single MLB.tv commercial.

      1. Last year it was commericals for yahoo.com - this year its its a verizon and an MSN commercial. They literally play the exact same two commercials between each inning and then you get the spinning baseball graphic until the next inning starts. It probably differs by what you use to watch. I get the commercials when watching on my PC - but not on my iPhone. Not sure about PS3 or iPad.

        1. That might be it. I also use Adblock Plus, and it blocked the hulu ads for a while as well.

    1. I really think there is some magic in this Premo. I'm gonna need to get a bigger stockpile.

  7. I just tasted my ginger hibiscus saison, who boy this is one interesting beer. Sweet, sour, spicy, and floral notes throughout.

    1. *whimper whimper*

this reminds me that someone (cheaptoy?) was supposed to give me a shopping list. although it's awfully hot to be shipping beer anywhere right now.

      1. Hey, I thought I did do that. A smattering of West Coast Ambers, if I do recall.

        1. You probably did. Don't hold your breath, but a package will come eventually.

    2. Interesting. How long did it take you to ferment that sucker? Me and saison yeast have a bit of a negative history.

      1. One week from 1.068 to 1.011 in a hot room (85 ish degrees). We'll get our swap together soon as I'm totally down for more 'toy beer, but we're taking off for the homeland sometime in the next two weeks.

        1. Huh, maybe I shouldn't ferment mine in the basement next time I try one. I let mine go for like 1-1/2 to 2 weeks and it was still around 1.035 or so.

          1. I've found that you should allow a saison to warm up (sometimes even as far as 90˚) to ferment quickly and fully. In the past I've had to add neutral yeast strains, rouse the yeast several times, and add yeast fuel to finish out fermentation. I think one of the best features of this yeast is that it's very durable and won't produce off flavor when the temperature is allowed to free rise.

            1. I'm gonna make a note of that. I suppose that would keep with a traditional saison brew fermented in a non-temp controlled barn somewhere.
