After a one day breather, your 16-40 Minnesota Twins rekindle their long slog toward winning baseball with a three-game tilt against the Miami Marlins beginning tonight at 7:10p in beautiful Target Field, Minneapolis.  The Twins promise to be a little feisty after dropping three of four against the Marlin’s Florida brethren, the Tampa Bay Rays.  Pat Dean on the mound for the Twins.  The Marlin’s bring their 30-27 record to Minnesota, however the Twins catch a break as Jose Fernandez pitched over the weekend and won’t be making an appearance in Minneapolis.

It promises to be a beautiful night at the ballpark.  No reason not to pick up a $7.00 ticket and just hang out.

  2. The Twins could win 19 of 20 like the 1991 Twins did (including Twins record 15-game winning streak) and they would still be 6 games under .500.

    Had the timing been a little different two winters ago, Ichiro Suzuki could be making this run for 3,000 hits in a Twins uniform instead of with the Miami Marlins.

    Even after the Twins signed Torii Hunter, there were conversations between Twins manager Paul Molitor and John Boggs, the agent he shares with Ichiro, about finding a role for the free-agent outfielder.

    It didn’t happen, in part because the Twins also had Jordan Schafer, now pitching in Triple-A for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, penciled in as their fourth outfielder. The Marlins signed Ichiro on a one-year deal in January 2015 for just $2 million.

        Keeping Jordan Schafer over (the shell of) Ichiro is a bit head scratching.

        1. Yeah, I don't know that I'd have been too thrilled about signing Ichiro, but he certainly would've brought more to the table than Jordan Schafer. It's another example of letting yourself be fooled by a small sample size. Schafer, improbably and unexpectedly, had hit .285 in 130 at-bats after the Twins acquired him in 2014. That was almost sixty points higher than his lifetime average and was completely unsustainable, but the Twins thought he'd turned a corner and would keep batting like that. The next year, he went back to normal and was released by mid-June.

  27. This is the first time I have seen Buddy Boshers. He looks exactly how I pictured a guy named Buddy Boshers.

    1. I'll echo Reusse - this team does not deserve a dance party. I'm happy they won, but they're terrible and should not be dancing until they're in the same time zone as .500.

      1. Terry Ryan and Jim Pohlad are the ones who don't deserve a dance party. Let the players enjoy a brief respite from the reality that they don't match up to most of their peers.

    1. Other pitchers with 1 career win in a Twins uniform: Tim Stauffer, Vance Worley, Jesse Orosco, RA Dickey, Craig Breslow, Steve Carlton (and others!)
