  1. Another morning game today, as the Fort Myers Miracle have a game starting at 9:30. And, of course, the Twins have a game starting at 12:10.

  2. Nick sez: how to build a baseball blog

so, we got (1) hit the ground running (we all ran away from the Boss's original at the same time, 'cuz he kicked us out); (2) feed your audience what it wants (dude, we got pork products!); (3) events fuel engagement (caucuses and mini-caucuses!); and (4) do what you can with what you've got (half-bakef!).

    We are collectively genius!

  3. I don't know if I've ever seen a batted ball travel faster in person than Sano's homer last night.

      1. Did you bat the ball from
Coach into first class? If so, then your overall speed was reduced due to directional disagreement.

        1. I didn't bat it, but it had previously been batted by Jason Kubel. Does that count?

  4. Following up on the conversation last night re: citizen population... It's something I've been thinking about lately. That it seems like a few people have fallen away, and that it's been a while since any new regulars have popped up (Mike was the latest?). Should we be talking about recruitment? Are we happy with our insular little world? Etc. I'm curious how others feel about this. I actually still feel new enough here that I'm not going to put forth a strong recommendation either way...

    1. I've thought about that off and on, but not sure what the best options are short of paying for advertising or something (and I don't really see that as a viable option anyway). I've tried to recruit a few friends I think would fit, but tough to get them to take the bait.

I was hoping there was a way to have content automatically post on Twins Daily or something, but couldn't figure it out (and it was for lack of trying too; half bakedf).

      1. Recruiting seems to me to maybe be the way to go, but, yeah, hard to get people to take the bait. Zee is my contribution in that field...

    2. I do not want an insular community.

Tying into what joe said, what drives new members is content that others see. We need to get RSS feeds hooked up to other sites or our posts cross-posted to them. I think the Twins community in general has consolidated into fewer different sites, so it is harder for the smaller sites to attract people.

      1. Though we are a twins blog I see this as much more the neighborhood coffee / bar shop. We could look to cross post rss with other Minnesota (ish) specific multi blogs (if such things exist..)

        1. Yeah, I could see a Twins follower showing up here and saying, "Well, the banner is kind of Twins-related, but where are the Twins posts? Here's a game log, but what's this other stuff?"

    3. I know I haven't been pulling my weight. 🙁
What attracted me to this place initially was the amazing 2006 run that the Twins made. I checked out so many sites that year, but it was the community here that ended up lasting the longest.
Lately, with them not doing so great, I've been less apt to check things out here. That and life is just busy.
I'd like to be more than just this insular little world, but at the same time, I don't really want to go out of our way to drum up new folks just to get new folks. I want it to feel more organic than that.
Not sure I have any suggestions other than if we want to get more people, maybe think about the content that's on the site. Do we need to focus on more Twins related articles (like the minor details) and cut pop culture? What is it as a site, as a community that we're wanting this to be? Maybe drum up some sort of mission statement?

    4. We have a WGOM group on Facebook, but is there a WGOM Facebook page? If so, then posts could be shared there and members of the WGOM group could see it and share and like it.

          1. I was thinking about using Facebook to get the World Greatest out there. I'm sure there's a plugin for it.

        1. I wonder if it would help for the WGOM to be, well, social on social networks. If the Twitter account is following Twins-related accounts, liking other tweets, and interacting, that might inspire some newcomers to check it out? (I do realize, however, this would require someone to invest time in doing this.)

    5. maybe more content would help too. i know we're all busy, but maybe a random video game post, or beer review, or recipe post if you come across something cool. it took a bit to coordinate, but the content bomb during the recent pledge drive had some of my favorite stuff in years. obviously we can't keep up to that level, but it was a lot of fun to see what citizens were into and then there interactions that followed.

tie that in with ✌️increased social media exposure✌️, any maybe you could share a few new souls.

      1. Was my other thought. I'll consciously pitch in a bit more after I get back from London.

      2. my real life has been impeding my contributions for the last six+ months. No real change in sight. Someone else will have to pick up the slack on beer reviews and cooking columns, particularly with meat galavanting about.

c'mon, cheaps. We need some brewing posts.

  5. Tuned in to cle-sf just in time to see posey whack a two run, go ahead double in the bottom of the eighth. I have mighty good timing.

  6. Tonight's game: musical children. The peperoncino is eating dinner with his friend next door, and the jalapeño has a friend from the next block over for dinner here.

      1. Only vaguely related... CER had to come to the office yesterday after her Orthodontist appt.
She asked as we neared Marquette and Washington, "What's with the ribs?"
I said, "I call them 'whale bones'."
