It's not Christmas yet, but we're making Mandelmusslor* anyway. We want to share them with our annual Thanksgiving guests (also of Swedish ancestry). We break with tradition though and serve with a scoup of ice cream in them.
*I grew up with the Norwegian name Sandbakkels, but the Swedish name is more evocative ("almond mussels")
When I was a kid, we always used to have lefsa at Christmas time with butter, sugar and cinnamon. My dad's mom was from Norway.
Our holiday treats were more southern - my mom's pecan pie is fight-for-the-last-piece good. Also, did anyone else have a dad who bought a case of oranges and grapefruits off the back of some enterprising migrant's pickup truck every December, or was that just us?
SCSU beat Bemidji 2-0 last night (close game, the second goal was an empty netter late in the third period) and the Bulldogs lost in Denver, so tonight's outcomes could mean some position shuffling among the NCAA leaders next week. If UMD and SCSU (6pm, FSN Plus) both win tonight, I expect they'll maintain the 1-2 rankings in that order although the margin is going to be very thin. But if SCSU wins and UMD loses again, the Huskies should be ranked #1 next week.
Warms my heart
There's a lot of season still to play, but it keeps things interesting when your rooting interest plays well early and retained a lot of its talent from last year.
Didn't see this mentioned on Wednesday:
From Charley Walters:
It’s a baby boy, Charles Joseph Mauer, born today to Joe and Maddie. All doing well.
It was mentioned, but this is the first I heard his name.
I wish that it was that easy

That ends an 0-for-11 end of game shooting streak for him.
The Brian Dozier of the NBA?
Brian is a nice guy.
