Today, I'm exactly as old as Cy Young was the day his hitless innings streak ended at 23 (still there longest in MLB history): 13,557 days old. (I'm also as old as Tris Speaker the day he got his 3,000th hit, but who cares about him?)
I'm really surprised this curse put on the Timberwolves by Ja Rule hasn't gotten more play here.
Sorry to see him go, but the Twins probably didn't have a spot for him. I suspect he'll get another chance somewhere, and I hope he can take advantage of it.
Coming back from shoulder surgery so not surprised.
I don't necessarily blame the Twins for cutting bait with him, but I have a feeling that Gabriel Moya will probably not accrue as much WAR over the course of his career (but at least he'll probably beat John Ryan Murphy).
Man, the Twins screwed up pretty much everything about this.
At least it own't be a David Ortiz kind of thing...
I don't know if that typo was deliberate or not, but if it was it's brilliant.
what, "own't" instead of "pwn't"?
Uhh, yeah, on purpose.
Gonna miss Joe.
Joe Mauer faced Justin Verlander more than any other pitcher. In 97 PA, ,he hit .317/.423/.537 (.959) with six doubles and four homers. Also walked 15 times and struck out 14 times.
I have found myself scanning the spring training box scores these past 3 days, and realizing that I always used to look for Joe's line first. I cared how he did, even in a spring training game. It's a big hole.
Hey, anyone -- does Bux have something to prove? Just asking for a friend...
If this is "prove something" Bux, I hope we see him all season.
And continue to see him in a Twins uniform after he could become a free agent.
Missing 2, 6, and 7 on the Invisibles Quiz. And I think reverse image searches take all the fun out of it...
It's totally cheating but I find it useful to see if it's a movie I've even heard of versus something I had no chance of knowing.
I got all but number 2; pretty sure that's the first time I've gotten 7/8 on my own. I feel like I should be able to get it, but I can't quite come up with it.

How does Butters count?
I think they can designate one player as emergency pitcher.
Emergency pitchers aren't on the 25-man or 40-man roster, and can only pitch in certain conditions. I liked the idea to allow the emergency pitcher to be a member of the coaching staff.
Per the article, Position players are still allowed to pitch so long as they don't pitch to more batters than they have plate appearances during the season. (Would probably need an exception for the beginning of the season.)
Of the ones I got wrong, I tended to miss only one letter in the middle.
Love this! Also the first time in my life I spelled Alanis's name right
Very cool. I was terrible at it. Almost always doubled a letter that shouldn't have been doubled or missed a vowel toward the end.
Nordic names vex me.
-SSON, -SSEN, -SON, or -SEN?
And Scarlett's name... built on which Johan? -N, -NN, -NS, -NNS, -NES, or -NNES?
And all the permutations of Kirsten/Kristen/Christen/Christian etc. have troubled me all my life.
I can still never get my wife's friends' names right.
I would have never attempted Shia's or Matthew M.'s last names without looking them up or being intentionally ignorant. (As it was, I switched the order of two of the latter vowels in Shia's name. Better than I would have thought.)
Chuck's isn't a name I've even tried to pronounce. Somehow I got all the right letters in mostly the wrong places. Just the first and last letters were in the right place.
I also got Mark M's last name quite wrong, and missed a double-vowel in Zach's name.
Today, Joe Mauer is exactly as old as Wolfgang Mozart was on the day he died.
Similar levels of genius, none of the deadly mystery illness!
Joe had more hits.

Or, as a friend used to say, "Go forth, lest ye be left behind and go fifth."

That's because Glen Taylor is the only curse any of us need.
It's going to have to compete with all the other curses.

Also, Aaron Hicks is getting a payday.

I got #2
I had 1,2,4,8
Anyone want to post 3 and 5 because I'm not going to make any effort to figure them out.
Yeah, I probably should have gotten 2, but never would have come up with it on my own. I kept thinking it was something like...
Aw geez, I'd just closed it before reading these. I had all except #3 and #6
Nate Silver with a proposal to limit rosters to 10 pitchers. I think I like the idea. I'd like to see more platoons, pinch hitters, etc.
