Minor Details: Games of June 6

The Saints lose a bullpen game.  A rough day for Chris Vallimont.  Wander Javier is heating up.  Brent Headrick has an outstanding game.

LOUISVILLE 6, ST. PAUL 1 IN LOUISVILLE

Aristides Aquino hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Bats a 2-1 lead.  Three more in the fourth put the game out of reach.

Batting stars:  None.  The Saints had just three hits.

Pitching stars:  Matt Mullenbach pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Aquino was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two walks.  Alejo Lopez was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.  T. J. Friedl was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third), a walk, and two runs.

Starter:  Robinson Leyer made his first start of the season in what looks like a bullpen game.  He pitched two innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks and struck out two.

Good stats:  Mullenbach made his AAA debut and has an ERA of zero.

Bad stats:  David Banuelos was 0-for-3 and is batting zero.  Keon Broxton was 1-for-3 to raise his average to .167.  Drew Maggi was 0-for-2 and is batting .174.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-3 and is batting .186.  Derek Law gave up one run in two innings and has an ERA of 5.40.  Leyer has an ERA of 5.87.  Tom Hackimer gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 16.20.  He did not give up a hit, but he walked six.

Record:  The Saints are 15-15, in third place in the AAA East-Midwest, 6.5 games behind Omaha.

ARKANSAS 9, WICHITA 0 IN WICHITA

Stephen Wrenn hit a two-run homer in the first inning and led all the way.

Batting stars:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-3 with a double.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-3.

Pitching stars:  Zach Neff struck out two in a perfect inning.  Jovani Moran retired all five men he faced, striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Jordan Cowan was 2-for-3 with two walks and four runs.  Wrenn was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.  Tyler Herb struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks.

Starter:  Chris Vallimont struck out six in three innings, but allowed four runs on four hits and two walks.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .393.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-4 and is batting .319.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-3 and is batting .316.  De La Trinidad is batting .314.  Whitefield is batting .311.  Moran has an ERA of 0.92.  Neff has an ERA of 1.69.

Bad stats:  Nick Garland was 0-for-1 and is batting zero.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-1 and is batting .125.  Peter Mooney was 0-for-3 and is batting .173.  Brandon Koch allowed three runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 5.23.  Vallimont has an ERA of 5.63.  Jordan Milbrath gave up two runs in two innings in his Wichita debut and has an ERA of 9.00.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 18-12, in first place in the AA Central-North, a half game ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, FORT WAYNE 3 IN FORT WAYNE

Trailing 3-1 the Kernels scored six runs in the sixth.  Spencer Steer hit a two-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Steer was 3-for-3 with two home runs (his third and fourth), a walk, three runs, and three RBIs.  Max Smith was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Wander Javier was 2-for-5 with a double.  Alex Isola was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Jair Camargo was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Jonathan Cheshire pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  Derek Molina struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Agustin Ruiz was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, his eighth.  Moises Lugo struck out eight in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and four walks.

Starter:  Ben Gross struck out seven in 4.1 innings but allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Cheshire lowered his ERA to 6.00.  Molina lowered his ERA to 6.32.

Record:  The Kernels are 13-17, in fifth place in the High-A Central-West, 6.5 games behind Quad Cities.

ST. LUCIE 2, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS (5 1/2 INNINGS--RAIN)

The Mets scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Batting star:  Edouard Julien was 1-for-2.  It was the only Mighty Mussels hit.

Pitching star:  Brent Headrick struck out eleven in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Opposition star:  Oscar Rojas pitched a complete game shutout, giving up one hit and no walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 0-for-2 and is batting .350.  Julien is batting .319.

Bad stats:  Justin Washington was 0-for-1 and is batting .077.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-1 and is batting .165.  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-2 and is batting .170.  Charles Mack was 0-for-2 and is batting .190.
