Friday Music Day – 3/25/22 – Soundtrack edition

Today's video is the Rolling Stones - She's A Rainbow, which I "liked" on Spotify after enjoying the soundtrack on Cruella. The movie was enjoyable enough, but the soundtrack really stood out for me, with a groovy, 60's London rock vibe going, and some exposure to tracks and artists (Ike & Tina!) I'm glad to add to my listening.

What's a favorite soundtrack for you, or one that opened you up to some music you needed to be paying attention to?

  1. Well heck -- soundtracks, now you're speaking my language. I spend many a day listening at StreamingSoundtracks and broadening my knowledge of the genre. I guess the ones that were the biggest eye-openers and favorites for me were:

    • Spirited Away soundtrack - Joe Hisaishi (or anything by him)
    • The Falcon and the Snowman soundtrack - Pat Metheny Group
    • Henry V soundtrack - Patrick Doyle
    • Tour de France soundtrack - John Tesh (yes, him)
    • Unearthed - E. S. Posthumus (a pair of brothers, songs from this album were used in MANY trailers)
    • Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone - Ennio Morricone & Yo-Yo Ma

    There are a whole lot of one-offs from various movies and games* as well.

    *game soundtracks have serious budgets and get the full symphony treatment much of the time -- lots of great stuff to be heard

  2. High Fidelity and Almost Famous

    Almost Famous showed more there is more to the Beach Boys than surfer songs and I should deep deeper into staple Classic Rock artists like Rod Stewart and The Who.

    High Fidelity I came for The Kinks and stayed because of Smog and The Beta Band

  3. This was a little tough for me. I wouldn't say any of them were completely revelatory, but they nudged me further and faster in directions I was kind of already heading. In no particular order:
