Coming off of Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen was a genuine rock star and while I think Born to Run created tons Bruce fans, Darkness on the Edge of Town turned that crowd into life-long adoring fans that still exist to this day (did you know Joe Pos once wrote about this album?). I love that the lyrics are screened on the video. Probably my favorite Springsteen song.
This verse is just magic:
There’s a dark cloud rising from the desert floor
I packed my bags and I’m heading straight into the storm
Gonna be a twister to blow everything down
That ain’t got the faith to stand its ground
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted
Huh, lyrics don't show up. Maybe it's just on youtube site itself.
Pre-swoll Bruce is the best Bruce.
Years ago I was south of Dublin in a pub with a friend, his uncle, and my brother. Bono walked into the pub. Kinda nuts, but also it's his local so (shrug emoji). Anywho, it's the uncle's local too, so he tells us this story - a few weeks prior bono and a salt and pepper haired American are enjoying a quiet drink when a drunk college kid approaches and says "OMG I'm your biggest fan. Can I get a picture with you"!!??* Bono says, sure. She looks at his companion and says will you take my photo with Bono? He agrees and she hands the camera to Bruce Springsteen.
I love that story even if it isn't true.

I want to believe that, too.
