My wife died 10 years ago today. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago, sometimes just last week. My life is much different now than it was 10 years ago and I think while the death of any loved one is devastating, the death of a spouse gives the survivor an opportunity to change the path of their life. Elaine died just as the kids were leaving the nest and all of a sudden I was on my own with no more nurse duties and very little need to be a hands-on dad besides writing a check or three. I've done things and been places I wouldn't have be able to do if I was married. Not that it's better or worse, just different. I use the path metaphor a lot and it's like all of a sudden a new path opened up and I decided to take that one.
Anyway, 10 years on me and the kids doing well. There's a hole there that will never be filled, but I guess that's the price of being human.

I guess that's the price of being human.. True words. As I've told many people, the only way to avoid the pain is to avoid the love, and none of us would want to avoid the love.
This exactly.
Ten years flies by. Beautiful tribute. I'm sure she's happy for you and the boys but questions some of the bands you see. π
She had those questions a long, long time ago too.
If you have Faraday bags you might want to use them today. Five big coronal mass ejections are heading our way. On the other hand, northern lights tonight!
Looks like it will be clear in the Twin Cities area too. Might be worth a late night road trip to a rural area.
Of course we're headed to Iowa this afternoon...
You might be able to see them there. We had northern lights once when we lived in Cedar Rapids. People were calling the newsroom and reporting them as prairie fires.
The viewing map I saw says you should be able to view them unless you're south of Iowa. I saw elsewhere a map that says it it would be viewable down to Texas but I can't find a source.
I think you'll have a chance of you're around algona. Lots of darkness.
We live right on the edge of rural so that's a short drive. But basketball is the top viewing priority tonight.
Peak should be after midnight so one could watch the game and then head out. That's my plan.
Looking to be cloudy and rainy here, so booooo.
as advertised
no Carrington Event expected, so...yay.
Agreed on they yay. It would have been cool to see aurora from Southern California, but not worth the side effects.

Several sources reporting The Sausage successfully made it across the Canadian border.
