  1. My wife died 10 years ago today. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago, sometimes just last week. My life is much different now than it was 10 years ago and I think while the death of any loved one is devastating, the death of a spouse gives the survivor an opportunity to change the path of their life. Elaine died just as the kids were leaving the nest and all of a sudden I was on my own with no more nurse duties and very little need to be a hands-on dad besides writing a check or three. I've done things and been places I wouldn't have be able to do if I was married. Not that it's better or worse, just different. I use the path metaphor a lot and it's like all of a sudden a new path opened up and I decided to take that one.

Anyway, 10 years on me and the kids doing well. There's a hole there that will never be filled, but I guess that's the price of being human.

    1. I guess that's the price of being human.. True words. As I've told many people, the only way to avoid the pain is to avoid the love, and none of us would want to avoid the love.

  2. If you have Faraday bags you might want to use them today. Five big coronal mass ejections are heading our way. On the other hand, northern lights tonight!

        1. You might be able to see them there. We had northern lights once when we lived in Cedar Rapids. People were calling the newsroom and reporting them as prairie fires.
