Minor Details: Games of 5/21

Syracuse 2, Rochester 0 in Syracuse.  The Chiefs scored single runs in the third and ninth.  Ray Chang had two hits, which was half of the Red Wings’ total.  Both Chiefs runs were unearned.  Ryan Mullins gave up the first one in five innings, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking none.  Chuck James pitched two shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 1.75.  Anthony Slama gave up the other unearned run on a hit and a walk in two innings.

New Hampshire at New Britain.  Postponed.  The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader this afternoon.

Ft. Myers 7, Brevard County 6 in Ft. Myers.  The Miracle scored three in the fourth to tie the game at four, then scored three in the fifth to take the lead.  Nate Hanson and Danny Rams each singled and doubled.  Aaron Hicks had two hits.  Reggie Williams homered and drove in three.  Edgar Ibarra got the win despite surrendering five runs on six hits and six walks in 5.1 innings.  Bruce Pugh pitched the final two innings, allowing an unearned run but getting the save.

Kane County 6, Beloit 5 in Beloit.  The Cougars scored four in the first and never trailed.  All the game’s runs were scored in the first three innings.  Nate Roberts had two singles and a double, raising his average to .352.  Andy Leer doubled and singled.  Andrei Lobanov allowed all six runs on ten hits and a walk in five innings.  Ben Tootle and Martire Garcia each pitched two shutout innings.

Minor Details: Games of 5/20

Rochester 5, Gwinnett 2 in Gwinnett.  Aaron Bates singled and homered, Brian Dinkelman singled and doubled, and Ray Chang and Chase Lambin each had two hits.  Andrew Baldwin struck out eight in 6.2 innings to get the win, giving up one run on seven hits and two walks.  Jim Hoey struck out two in a perfect ninth for the save.

New Hampshire 6, New Britain 2 in New Britain.  The Fisher Cats scored two in the third and two in the fourth to build a four-run lead.  Yangervis Solarte had two hits, raising his average to .362.  Bobby Lanigan lasted only four innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits and a walk.  Spencer Steedley struck out three in a scoreless inning.

Ft. Myers 7, Brevard County 2 in Ft. Myers.  The Miracle scored three in the sixth to put away the victory.  Brian Dozier had a triple and two singles, raising his average to .322.  Aaron Hicks singled and doubled.  James Beresford drove in three runs.  Kane Holbrooks got the win, pitching five innings and giving up one run on four hits and three walks.  Brad Tippett worked two perfect innings of relief.

Kane County 4, Beloit 3 in Beloit (13 innings).  The Snappers scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the game at two, and scored one more in the tenth to tie it at three, but ultimately fell short.  The winning run scored on a walk, a single, a wild pitch, and two more walks.  Wang-wei Lin had two doubles and a single.  Lance Ray singled and doubled.  Pat Dean struck out five in six innings, walking none and giving up a run on five hits.  Jose Gonzalez pitched two shutout innings.  Ryan O’Rourke started the thirteenth and took the loss.  Cougar pitchers struck out seventeen Snappers.

Rochester is 15-23, sixth (last) in the IL North, 8 games behind Lehigh Valley.  The Red Wings have lost two in a row and are 3-7 over their last ten games.

New Britain is 23-14, second in the EL East, 1 game behind New Hampshire.  The Rock Cats have lost one in a row and are 8-2 over their last ten games.

Ft. Myers is 23-18, second in the FSL South, 2 games behind St. Lucie.  The Miracle has won three in a row and is 4-6 over its last ten games.

Beloit is 21-19, tied for third in the ML West, 8.5 games behind Burlington.  The Snappers have lost two in a row and are 4-6 over their last ten games.

Atlanta organization sends Jose Lugo from Gwinnett (AAA) to Mississippi (AA), then promotes him back to Gwinnett the next day.
Boston reinstates Dennys Reyes from the inactive list.
Florida organization (AA Jacksonville) releases Erik Lis.
Dodgers purchase the contract of Juan Castro from Albuquerque (AAA).
Yankees promote Carlos Silva from Tampa (A) to Trenton (AA), then promote him from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA).
St. Louis places Nick Punto on the fifteen day disabled list.

Minor Details: Games of 5/19

Gwinnett 7, Rochester 3 in Gwinnett.  The Braves scored five runs in the first two innings.  Scott Diamond allowed all five (four earned), giving up six hits and three walks in 2.1 innings.  Kyle Waldrop struck out six in 3.2 perfect innings.  Ray Chang and Steve Holm each singled and doubled.  Brian Dinkelman had two hits.

Harrisburg 3, New Britain 1 in Harrisburg (Game 1—Scheduled 7 innings).  A two-run third made the difference.  Liam Hendriks pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six.  The Rock Cats made two errors, both in the third inning, and had only three hits.

New Britain at Harrisburg (Game 2).  Postponed.

Ft. Myers 4, Brevard County 3 in Ft. Myers.  Brian Dozier hit a two-run single with two out in the bottom of the tenth.  Josmil Pinto had three hits and Dozier had two.  Matt Schuld gave up just one unearned run on four hits and two walks in 7.1 innings.  Jhon Garcia allowed an unearned run in the top of the tenth on a hit and two walks to get the win.  The Miracle made three errors.

Wisconsin 6, Beloit 1 in Wisconsin (Game 1—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Timber Rattlers scored three in the second to take the lead for good.  Adrian Salcedo allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in five innings.  The Snappers had only five hits.

Wisconsin 4, Beloit 3 in Wisconsin (Game 2—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Snappers scored all their runs in the first inning.  The Timber Rattlers tied it with a three-run third and scored one more in the fourth.  Lance Ray singled and doubled, collecting two of the three Snapper hits.  They also made three errors.  Starter Michael Tonkin gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks in three innings.  Ben Tootle took the loss, giving up the fourth-inning run but nothing else in three innings.  He allowed two hits.

Outfielder Herman Wedemeyer played for Class C Salt Lake City in 1950.  He was a star running back in the All-America Football Conference, and later appeared in over 300 episodes of Hawaii Five-O, playing Sergeant Edward "Duke" Lukela.

Right-hander Tom Morgan was with Washington at the end of 1960, appearing in fourteen games with them.  On January 31, 1961, before the franchise played a game in Minnesota, he was sold to the Los Angeles Angels.

Outfielder Ralph Bryant was drafted by Minnesota in the thirteenth round of the January draft in 1981, but he did not sign.

There do not appear to be any other major league players with connections to the Minnesota Twins born on this day.

New Britain at Harrisburg.  Postponed.  Game will be made up as part of a doubleheader this evening.

Ft. Myers 6, Brevard County 5 in Ft. Myers.  The Miracle took a 3-0 lead after one, fell behind 5-3 after three, tied it in the sixth, and won it in the bottom of the eighth.  Brian Dozier had three hits, two of them doubles.  Steve Liddle had three hits.  Aaron Hicks singled and doubled.  Tom Stuifbergen lasted only three innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits and a walk.  Andrew Albers threw three shutout innings.  Blake Martin got the win with 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out four.  Dakota Watts came in with the tying run on second and struck out the only man he faced to get the save.

Wisconsin 1, Beloit 0 in Wisconsin (Game 1—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Timber Rattlers had only two hits, but one of them was a home run.  B. J. Hermsen pitched a complete game, walking two and striking out one.  The Snappers had five hits.

Beloit 4, Wisconsin 2 in Wisconsin (Game 2—8 innings—scheduled 7 innings).  The winning rally came on two hit batsmen, a walk, and two singles.  Jamaal Hawkins singled and doubled.  Michael Gonzales had two hits.  Starter Ryan O’Rourke pitched three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk.  Matt Hauser got the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.  Jose Gonzalez struck out the side in the eighth to get the save.
