OneRepublic – I Lived
This song reminds me of my sister, Anna. As many of you might recall, she had cystic fibrosis, and passed at the age of 23. This song was released right around the time she passed, and one of the constant tributes was how fully she lived each moment of her life, full of swagger and verve. So this song was already appropriate.
Then the band went and released their official music video version and, well, just watch the first minute and tell me it wasn't perfect:
Jim Carroll (With Lou Reed) – People Who Died
This guest DJ stint was originally scheduled a few weeks ago, but my grandmother died and I was AFK a bunch, so I pushed it to this week. It gave me the idea to do a theme week with a little tribute song each day for people in my life who have passed away. Some'll be funeral songs, some won't. And today we'll kick it off with a song that is too catchy for the subject matter, but just had to be played.
Jimmy Buffett – Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes
We've been debating spring break for a couple months or more. It wasn't pretty. There were a couple nervous breakdowns. We didn't reach consensus and action until Friday, finally settled on itinerary and accommodations. There was a lot of booking and cancelling. We leave Monday.
We feel ridiculous, mostly, at our planning disfunction, but are hopeful for a little fun and relaxation along the beach for a few days. We don't do this, really, so wish us luck.
(Also, best comment I saw on the Jimmy Buffet YouTube: "Being 20 in the Seventies was a lot more fun than being 70 in the Twenties")
Alex Melton – Wonderwall (Blink182 style)
I was never much of an Oasis guy, but was the right age for some Blink-182. I can work with this.
The Rolling Stones – She’s A Rainbow
Have you heard of these guys? They seem pretty cool.
Birds of Bellwoods – Melatonin
Cosmo Sheldrake – Come Along
I think it might have been the concert percussion (and some woodwinds, if I'm hearing right) that got my attention with this one. It's almost all synth (maybe?), but the ears like what they like. And a catchy chorus that hits nicely.
Red Sun Rising – Deathwish
I have been trying to do a little better listening to suggestions and recommendations on Spotify and flagging songs to expand my playlists. Not trying to make a statement with these guys; just enjoyed the track.
Rare Americans – Rhythm Kitchen
I picked Rare Americans for my “Best of 2021.” I guess I’ll start here while I figure out what the rest of the week looks like.
