Minor Details: Games of April 20

SAINTS 5, RAILRIDERS 4 IN ST. PAUL

St. Paul led 4-0 after three and held on.

Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Hernan Perez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.
Jorge Polanco did not play.

Jose De Leon struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.
Every reliever gave up exactly one run.

DRILLERS 3, WIND SURGE 0 IN TULSA

Tulsa scored one in the first, second, and fifth.  Wichita was shut out for the second consecutive game.

Wichita had five hits, all singles, and no batter had more than one.

Travis Adams pitched four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks and striking out four.
Tyler Beck pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out one.
Michael Boyle retired all five men he faced, striking out one.

SKY CARP 3, KERLENS 2 IN BELOIT

Yiddi Cappe's RBI single in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie.

Kala'i Rosario was 4-for-4 with a triple and a double.

Jordan Carr pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk and striking out three.
Mike Paredes struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Miguel Rodriguez pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

MIGHTY MUSSELS 11, HAMMERHEADS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Andrew Cossetti hit a grand slam in the third and Fort Myers added four in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead.

Cossetti was 2-for-4 with a grand slam (his fourth homer), a double, two runs, and seven RBIs.  He is batting .355 with an OPS of 1.280.
Danny De Andrade was 2-for-4 with a double.

Cory Lewis struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.
Samuel Perez retired all eight men he faced, striking out one.
Jackson Hicks struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

St. Paul had six hits, all singles, and no batter had more than one.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  Alex Kirilloff did not play.

Aaron Sanchez struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on six hits and three walks.  Jordan Balazovic struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

SKY CARP 5, KERNELS 2 IN BELOIT

Beloit scored all five of their runs in the second inning.

Cedar Rapids had only three hits, and no batter had more than one.  The Kernels did draw seven walks.

Starter Kyle Jones pitched three innings, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks and striking out one.  Malik Barrington struck out five in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Niklas Rimmel pitched two shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.  Matthew Swain pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.

HAMMERHEADS 8, MIGHTY MUSSELS 7 IN FORT MYERS

Fort Myers led 6-0, but Jupiter scored five in the seventh and three in the eighth.  Cristhian Rodriguez' two-run single brought home the tying and go-ahead runs.

Andrew Cossetti was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), a walk, two runs, and four RBIs.  Ricardo Olivar was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jorel Ortega was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs.

Davelson Aria pitched five scoreless, hitless innings, giving up two walks and striking out four.  The bullpen surrendered all eight runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings.

Contreras was 2-for-4 with a grand slam (his third homer) and five RBIs.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Bailey Ober struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Patrick Murphy pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.  Cody Laweryson pitched a perfect inning.  Dereck Rodriguez struck out three in a perfect inning.  Brock Stewart struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and a walk.

WIND SURGE 4, DRILLERS 2 IN TULSA

Eighth-inning homers by Brooks Lee and Yunior Severino broke a 2-2 tie.

DaShawn Kiersey hit a two-run homer.  Lee's homer was his second.  Severino's homer was his third.  No Wichita batter had more than one hit.  Of the teams' five hits, three were home runs.

Blayne Enlow pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks and striking out five.  Jose Bravo retired all five men he faced, striking out two.  Kody Funderburk pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out one.

SKY CARP 6, KERNELS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Kyler Castillo hit a two-run single in the fifth to give Beloit a 3-1 lead.

Noah Miller was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Starter Jaylin Nowlin pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks and striking out seven.  Charlie Neuweiler struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

HAMMERHEADS 5, MIGHTY MUSSELS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Jupiter scored four in the third and never trailed.

Michael Helman was 2-for-3 with a double.  Andrew Cossetti was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.

Starter C. J. Culpepper pitched four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks and striking out five.  A. J. Labas pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out one.  Gabriel Yanez struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

NATURALS 15, WIND SURGE 5 IN WICHITA

Wichita scored two in the first, but Northwest Arkansas came back with five in the second and led the rest of the way.

Seth Gray was 2-for-4.  Jake Rucker was 2-for-5.

Starter Chad Donato lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks and striking out one.  Hunter McMahon struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two walks.

QUAD CITIES AT CEDAR RAPIDS

MIGHTY MUSSELS 5, THRESHERS 0 IN CLEARWATER

Carlos Aguiar and Andrew Cossetti homered in a three-run second and Fort Myers led the rest of the way.

Aguiar was 2-for-3 with two home runs and a walk.  Cossetti hit a two-run homer.

Zebby Matthews struck out seven in five innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Jackson Hicks struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Ben Ethridge struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Ryan LeMarre doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth.

Mark Contreras was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Tony Wolters was 2-for-3.  Andrew Stevenson was 2-for-5.

Louie Varland was scheduled to start but was a late scratch, apparently because he's been promoted to Minnesota.  Dereck Rodriguez started instead and pitched four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out five.  Jordan Balazovic struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks.  Austin Schulfer pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  Jose De Leon pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

Trailing 3-1, Northwest Arkansas scored seven runs in the sixth.  They had eight hits in the inning, one double and seven singles.

Jack Alexander hit a two-run double in the seventh to give Quad Cities a 3-0 lead.

Starter Kyle Jones pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk and striking out four.  Matthew Swain struck out two in a perfect inning.

MIGHTY MUSSELS 10, THRESHERS 6 IN CLEARWATER

Fort Myers scored four in the first and led all the way.

Ricardo Olivar was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  Rubel Cespedes was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, two walks, and two runs.  Alex Kirilloff hit a home run.  Maddux Houghton hit a home run.

Starter Develson Aria struck out seven in three innings, but gave up two runs on four hits and four walks.  Samuel Perez struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Johnathan Lavallee struck out two in two perfect innings.

Bailey Ober struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Trevor Megill struck out the side in a perfect inning.

Wichita scored three in the first and led all the way.

Jake Rucker was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Alex Isola was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Brooks Lee hit a two-run homer.

KERNELS 10, RIVER BANDITS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Ben Ross hit a two-run homer in the first and Cedar Rapids followed with a four-run second.

Noah Miller was 2-for-2 with three walks and two runs.  Jeferson Morales was 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, and two runs.  Ross was 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs.  Emmanuel Rodriguez hit a three-run homer, his second.

Starter Jaylin Nowlin allowed four runs in 3.1 innings, giving up five hits and three walks and striking out two.  Orlando Rodriguez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings despite walking four.  He struck out one.  Regi Grace struck out two in two shutout innings.

Justin Crawford's two-run double in the seventh broke a 3-3 tie.

No Fort Myers batter had more than one hit, and they were all singles.

WIND SURGE 3, NATURALS 1 IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

Wichita scored two runs without a hit in the eighth to break a 1-1 tie.  They only put one ball in play in the inning:  it went strikeout, walk, error, walk, wild pitch, strikeout, hit batsman, walk, strikeout.

Wichita had just two hits in the game.

Carlos Luna struck out ten in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and no walks.  Kody Funderburk struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Alex Scherff struck out two and walked one in 1.1 scoreless innings.  Wind Surge pitchers had fifteen strikeouts.

KERNELS 8, RIVER BANDITS 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Emmanuel Rodriguez hit a walkoff grand slam.

Tanner Schobel was 2-for-4.  Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a walk, a grand slam, and two runs.

Pierson Ohl struck out six in five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk.  Malik Barrington struck out five in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Miguel Rodriguez retired both men he faced.  Kernels pitchers had eleven strikeouts.

THRESHERS 6, MIGHTY MUSSELS 0 IN CLEARWATER

The Threshers scored once in the second, third, sixth, seventh, and got two in the eighth.

The Mighty Mussels had just three hits.

Wichita scored both runs in the third inning.

Kala'i Rosario singled home the go-ahead run in the tenth.

Rosario was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Noah Miller was 2-for-5.  Tanner Schobel hit a three-run homer.

Starter Kyle Jones struck out six in 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks.  Matt Mullenbach struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Regi Grace struck out three in two perfect innings.

MIGHTY MUSSELS 4, BLUE JAYS 3 IN DUNEDIN

Fort Myers led 4-1 after three and made it stand up.

No Mighty Mussel had more than one hit.

Starter Andrew Morris struck out seven in 4.1 innings, but gave up three runs on eight hits and no walks.  Josh Winder struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Johnathan Lavallee struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Juan Mendez struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

CUBS 12, SAINTS 11 IN ST. PAUL

St. Paul scored six in the eighth to go up 11-8, but Iowa came back with four in the ninth.  Christopher Morel's two-run single brought home they tying and go-ahead runs.

Edouard Julien was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second), a walk, three runs, and two RBIs.  Kyle Garlick was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second), two runs, and two RBIs.  Matt Wallner was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.  Tyler White was 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk.  The first four men in the Saints lineup were 8-for-19 with three home runs, a double, two walks, seven runs, and nine RBIs.

Starter Baliey Ober struck out six in 2.2 innings, but allowed three runs on three hits and four walks.  The only Saints pitcher to go unscored upon was Connor Sadzeck, who retired the only man he faced.  The four ninth-inning runs were given up by Cody Laweryson.  On the one hand, they were all unearned due to a two-out error.  On the other hand, he gave up four hits and a walk in the inning.
