Solar Sox Summary

Mesa scored four runs in the first two innings and was never threatened as the Solar Sox defeated Salt River 9-2 in Salt River.  The win gave Mesa four consecutive victories.

Junior Lake (Cubs) led the way with three singles and a double, driving in three.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) had two hits and scored three times, and Tyler Saladino (White Sox) had two hits and drove in three.  Terry Doyle (White Sox) worked four shutout innings to get the win, striking out four while giving up one hit and two walks.  The only Twin to play was Bruce Pugh, who pitched a perfect eighth inning.

The Rafters were led by Gorman Erickson (Dodgers), who singled and doubled.  The loss went to Stephen Fife (Dodgers), who allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in two innings.

Mesa is off today.  The Solar Sox host Surprise Monday afternoon.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa made it three wins in a row, scoring four in the fifth to defeat Phoenix 5-1 in Mesa.

Junior Lake (Cubs) and D. J. LeMahieu (Cubs) each singled and doubled to lead the Solar Sox.  Brian Dozier was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Chris Herrmann was 1-for-3 and scored once.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Cole DeVries started and got the win, throwing four shutout innings while allowing just two hits and no walks.

For the Desert Dogs, Cody Puckett (Cincinnati) singled and tripled and Ronnie Mustelier (Yankees) had two hits.  The loss went to Murphy Smith (Oakland), who allowed all five runs on eight hits and a walk in 4.2 innings.

Mesa travels to Salt River this afternoon.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa scored two in the fifth to put away a 4-1 victory over Scottsdale in Mesa.  The Solar Sox scored in the first and led all the way.

Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) singled and homered, driving in three to lead Mesa.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run.  Brian Dozier had a rough day, going 0-for-4 and striking out three times.  Gerrit Cole (Pittsburgh) got the win with three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Two Twins pitchers closed out the game, with Brett Jacobson allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless eighth and Bruce Pugh working a perfect ninth to get the save.

The Scorpions had only four hits.  Tyson Gillies (Philadelphia--he's Gillies of the Phillies) hit a home run for the lone Scottsdale run.  Starter Daryl Maday (San Francisco) took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in four innings.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa scored four in the seventh to tie the game at four, then tallied twice in the ninth to defeat Scottsdale 6-5.

Michael Blanke and Aaron Hicks each hit a two run homer in the seventh inning.  Each also contributed a double and went 2-for-4, with Hicks scoring twice.  Junior Lake (Cubs) singled and tripled and Tyler Saladino (White Sox) had two hits.  Chris Carpenter (Cubs) got the win in relief, allowing a run on a hit in one inning.  Brandon Kloess (White Sox) struck out two in a perfect ninth for the save.  Bruce Pugh gave up a hit and a walk, but no runs, in 1.1 innings, striking out two.

Scottsdale was led by Derek Norris (Washington), who had two singles and a home run.  Starter Chris Scholl (Angels) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  The loss went to B. J. Rosenberg (Philadelphia), who allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in two innings.

Mesa led 7-3 after six, but surrendered five in the seventh and four in the eighth, falling to Salt River 12-9 in Salt River.

Salt River was led by Nolar Arenado (Colorado), who had four hits including a home run and drove in four.  Adam Eaton (Arizona) had a pair of doubles and scored three times.  Rob Brantly (Detroit) singled and doubled.  Hernan Perez (Detroit) had two hits to drive in three runs, and Jake Goebbert (Houston) hit a home run.  Josh Wall (Dodgers) got the win despite allowing a run on two hits and a walk in one inning.

Aaron Hicks led the way for the Solar Sox, going 3-for-5 with a single, a triple, and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.  Xavier Avery (Baltimore) had two singles and a triple.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) and Jarek Cunningham (Pittsburgh) each had two hits.  Chris Herrmann was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once, and Brian Dozier was 0-for-3 but walked twice, scored a run, and drove in a run.  The loss went to Marcus Hatley (Cubs, who yielded five runs on six hits in one inning.  Dakota Watts gave up a hit and a walk, but no runs, in two-thirds of an inning.

Mesa scored four in the third and five in the fifth, building a 12-1 lead on the way to a 13-7 victory.

Jarek Cunningham (Pittsburgh) led the Solar Sox with two home runs and a triple, scoring three times and driving in five.  Joe Mahoney (Baltimore) had two doubles and a home run, driving in three.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) singled and homered, and Brian Dozier had two hits.  Terry Doyle (White Sox) got the win, going five innings and giving up a run on a hit and a walk.  Brett Jacobson worked 1.1 scoreless innings, walking two and striking out two.

In a see-saw game, Magallanes scored in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 win over Aragua.

Jesus Flores (Washington) had three hits to lead the Navegantes.  Richard Hidalgo (yes, he's still around) and Adonis Garcia each singled and homered, with Garcia driving in three.  Kole Calhoun (Angels) and Bryan LaHair (Cubs) each homered.  Rafael Cova walked one in a scoreless eighth to get the win.  Jean Machi (San Francisco) struck out two in a perfect ninth for the save.

Aragua was led by Edgardo Alfonzo, who had two singles and a double.  Lastings Milledge doubled and homered, and Ramon Castro had two hits.  Joe Benson was 0-for-4.  The loss went to Victor Moreno, who allowed the winning run on two hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning.

Aragua is off today.  The Tigres travel to Margarita Tuesday.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa broke open a close game with a five-run sixth on their way to a 14-3 victory over Surprise.

Junior Lake (Cubs) singled, doubled, and homered, scoring three times and driving in four to lead the Solar Sox.  Joe Mahoney (Baltimore) had three hits including a double and also drove in four.  Brian Dozier was 3-for-5 with a double, driving in two and scoring four times.  D. J. LeMahieu (Cubs) had three hits.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) singled and homered.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3, but drew two walks, drove in a run, and scored twice. 

Cole DeVries started and got the win, giving up just one hit in four shutout innings while striking out five.  Bruce Pugh worked a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Chris Carpenter (Cubs) struck out five in 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit.

The Saguaros had only five hits in the game.  Starter Shane Dyer (Tampa Bay) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in four innings.

Mesa has Sunday off, then hosts Salt River on Monday afternoon.

Solar Sox Summary

Surprise scored six in the seventh to put away a 16-8 victory over Mesa in Mesa.  The Saguaros led 7-5 before the big inning.

Tim Beckham (Tampa Bay) led Surprise with two doubles and two triples, driving in four and scoring three times.  Kevin Mattison (Florida), who has an awesome mustache, singled, tripled, and homered, driving in four and scoring four times.  Matt Dominguez (Florida) had two singles and a homer.  Mike Olt (Texas) had two singles and a double, driving in three, and Joe Terdoslavich (Atlanta) had two hits.  The win went to Miguel De Los Santos (Texas), who gave up two unearned runs on a hit and three walks while striking out three in two innings.

For Mesa, Josh Vitters (Cubs) had three singles and a double.  D. J. LeMahieu (Cubs) singled and hit a two-run homer.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) singled and doubled.  Chris Herrmann singled and doubled, driving in two and scoring once.  Junior Lake (Cubs) hit a home run.  Brian Dozier was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk, scoring once.  Marcus Hatley (Cubs) took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits and a walk in 1.2 innings.  Dakota Watts struck out four in 1.1 innings, but allowed a run on two hits and a walk.
