Solar Sox Summary

Mesa scored three in the fifth on the way to a 6-3 win over Peoria.  The Solar Sox pounded out sixteen hits in the game, their second win in their last three tries.

Tyler Saladino (White Sox) led the way with two singles and a triple.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) had two singles and a double and Brandon Short (White Sox) had three singles.  Jarek Cunningham (Pittsburgh) singled and doubled.  Brian Dozier was 2-for-5, scoring a run and driving one in.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-5 and scored once.  Nathan Baker (Pittsburgh) got the win with two shutout innings, giving up one hit and walking one.  Brett Jacobson worked a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Mike Colla (Pittsburgh) walked one in a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Peoria was held to five hits and made three errors.  Taylor Whitenton (Mets) took the loss, surrendering three runs on three hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa's winning streak ended at one yesterday as Peoria took a 6-2 victory over the Solar Sox.

Scooter Gennett (Milwaukee) led the Javelinas with two singles and a double.  Juan Lagares (Mets) singled and homered.  Kentrail Davis (Milwaukee) singled and tripled.  Jefry Marte (Mets) had two hits.  Nick Franklin (Seattle) hit a home run.  The win went to Anthony Bass (San Diego), who allowed both runs on three hits and a walk in four innings.  Robert Carson (Mets) worked two shutout innings of relief.

Mesa was led by Junior Lake (Cubs), who had two of the four Solar Sox hits.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3.  Bruce Pugh took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in 1.1 innings.  Dakota Watts worked 1.2 perfect innings.

Mesa travels to Peoria today.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa finally got its first win, defeating Scottsdale 3-2.  The Solar Sox once again got off to an early lead, as they were ahead 3-0 after six.  This time, however, they were able to hold on for the victory.

Brandon Short (White Sox) led Mesa with a single and a solo homer.  Junior Lake (Cubs) had two hits.  Brian Dozier was 0-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.  Chris Herrmann was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk.  The win went to Terry Doyle (White Sox), who started and pitched four perfect innings.  Andrew Cashner (Cubs) worked a scoreless ninth, giving up one hit to get the save.  No Twins pitchers were used in the game.

For the Scorpions, Hank Conger (Angels) and Zach Walters (Arizona) each had two hits.  Starter Tyler Cloyd (Philadelphia) took the loss, giving up a run on four hits and a walk in three innings.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa once again lost by one run in the late innings, falling to Scottsdale 4-3.  This time, the Solar Sox led 3-0 after three innings, but the Scorpions scored three in the fourth to tie and one in the eighth to win.

Scottsdale was led by Brandon Crawford (San Francisco), who had two singles and led off the eighth with a triple, eventually scoring the winning run.  Stephen Harrold (San Francisco) got the win, working two scoreless innings and allowing only two baserunners, both on walks.

For Mesa, D. J. LeMahieu (Cubs) singled and doubled and Robbie Grossman (Pitssburgh) had two hits.  Brian Dozier was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.  Aaron Hicks got his first hit, going 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.  Cole DeVries started, working three scoreless innings before allowing the three runs in the fourth.  For the game, he gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.1 innings.  Brett Jacobson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Brandon Kloess (White Sox) took the loss, allowing a run on a hit and two walks in one inning.

The Solar Sox will continue to look for their first victory as they host Scottsdale this afternoon.

Ryan Wheeler (Arizona) had four hits, two of them doubles, to lead the Rafters.  David Nick (Arizona) singled and doubled and Jay Austin (Houston) had two hits.  Josh Zeid (Houston) worked a scoreless eighth, walking one, to get the win and Josh Wall (Dodgers) pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up one hit, to get the save.

For Mesa, Josh Vitters (Cubs) led the way with three hits.  Tyler Saladino (White Sox) and D. J. LeMahieu (Cubs) each had two hits.  No Twins position players appeared in the game.  Bruce Pugh threw one inning, giving up a run on a hit and three walks.  Chris Carpenter (Cubs) struck out two in the ninth but gave up the unearned run to take the loss.

The Solar Sox are off today.  Still seeking their first win of the season, they travel to Scottsdale Monday night.

Salt River tallied in the bottom of the ninth to keep Mesa winless and take a 4-3 victory.  The winning run scored on an error.

Adam Eaton (Arizona) had two hits to lead the Rafters.  Kody Hinze (Houston) hit a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the game.  Tyler Stohr (Detroit) worked a scoreless ninth despite allowing two walks to get the win.

Jarek Cunningham (Pittsburgh) hit a two-run homer in the second to give the Solar Sox a 2-0 lead.  Chris Herrmann was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-5.  Dakota Watts gave up an unearned run on two hits in two innings.  Marcus Hatley (Cubs) gave up a run on a hit and a walk in 1.1 innings to take the loss.

Once again, Mesa gave up a big inning in the middle of the game.  The Solar Sox led 5-0 after four, but Surprise scored five in the fifth and two in the sixth on their way to an 8-7 victory.

Ryan Strausborger (Texas) had three hits including a double to lead the Saguaros.  Kyle Skipworth (Florida) singled and doubled.  Bryan Paukovits (Kansas City) got the win, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk in one inning.  Ex-Twin Billy Bullock (Atlanta) got the save, giving up a run on a hit and a walk in one inning.

Brian Dozier led Mesa with a 4-for-4 day including a home run.  He scored three times and drove in three.  Josh Vitters (Cubs) had two hits.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4, but drew a walk and scored.  Brett Jacobson took the loss, surrendering three runs on three hits and a walk in 1.2 innings.

Mesa led 3-1 after five, but Phoenix scored five in the sixth and four in the seventh to take a 10-4 victory.

Roberto Perez (Cleveland) and Grant Green (Oakland) each blasted a three-run homer.  Anthony Gose (Toronto) and Cody Puckett (Cincinnati) also homered.  Dusty Coleman (Oakland) had two hits.  Dan Burawa (Yankees) got the win despite giving up a run on two hits in 1.2 innings.

For Mesa, Junior Lake (Cubs) singled, doubled, and homered and Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) had three hits including a home run.  Brian Dozier was 1-for-4 and Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4.  The loss went to Nevin Griffith (White Sox), who surrendered five runs on three hits and two walks in just two-thirds of an inning.  Bruce Pugh yielded four runs on four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.

Phoenix scored six runs in the fourth to overcome a 6-3 deficit on the way to a 12-8 victory over the Mesa Solar Sox in Phoenix.

Michael Choice (Oakland) led the way for Phoenix with a single, a double, and a home run.  Anthony Gose (Toronto) and Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) each doubled and homered, with Gose driving in three.  Aaron Loup (Toronto) got the win despite allowing two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings.  Brad Boxberger (Cincinnati) struck out all four batters he faced to get the save.

For Mesa, Josh Vitters (Cubs) hit two homers and drove in five runs.  Chris Herrmann singled and doubled, going 2-for-4.  Brian Dozier was 1-for-5 with a double.  Cole DeVries started and allowed three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.  Dakota Watts took the loss, surrendering five runs on two hits and three walks in just two-thirds of an inning.
