  1. I don't know about you, but I spent my Memorial Day helping people move all their earthly possessions out of their homes in preparation for a coming flood. I expect to be doing that all day today, too. The state is recommending (although not yet requiring) that the entire community of Dakota Dunes be evacuated. Areas beyond the hundred year floodplain are being affected. Where I live will probably be all right, but prayers for those in the flood's path would be appreciated.

    1. Bismarck is looking to put together 8,000,000 sandbags by this weekend. By comparison, Fargo built, I think, 2,000,000 sandbags over six weeks this winter.

  2. The Atlanta Thrashers are moving to Winnipeg. The people on the radio sound like they're so happy they could cry. They are now running a season ticket drive, and have a goal of 13,000 season ticket packages. There are 15,000 seats in the MTS Centre. It's going to be a hard ticket, though I'd like to get a seat for a game some time this fall.

      1. There hasn't been an announcement on the name. It sounds like the new ownership group would prefer to not use it, and instead use the existing Manitoba Moose name since they've spent so much time promoting that brand. I say yuck to that. Call them the Manitoba Jets, do a similar, updated logo, and everyone there will probably be dancing in the streets.

  3. JoeCStrib: #Twins vs. RH Scherzer: Span 8, Casilla 4, Morneau 3, Cuddyer 9, Thome DH, Valencia 5, Young 7, Rivera 2, Tolbert 6. (Duensing P)

No word yet on whether Kubel will go to DL.

      1. Since every player on the 15 day DL is also on the 40 man roster, the limit is 15, unless the club wants to play with fewer than 25 on the active roster.

        1. Which this club seems to always be doing by keeping players on the active roster despite being injured.

          1. Does moving a player off the active roster always involve putting them through waivers first?

            1. only if the player is out of options.

clarification -- a player can be released outright without going through waivers, I think. So, you can DFA a player and release him, or DFA and put him through waivers in order to return him to the minors when he is out of options.

  4. Keith Law rates his top 25 prospects (sub. req.). Here's a partial list of those who fell out of the top 25:

Players who fell: Kyle Gibson, RHP, Minnesota (performing but stuff has been ordinary enough to lower the ceiling); Aaron Hicks, OF, Minnesota (tools are intact, but power still isn't showing up in games and scouts are questioning the left-handed swing).

    1. I wonder if the Twins would be okay with having Hicks focus on batting from the RH side of the plate. Or, when they'll ask him to.

    2. Did Gibson's stuff suddenly change? That makes no sense. Plus, his K rate and BB rate at AAA are better than his career numbers.

      1. yea, that is a bit weird. He's not "dominating" AAA by the standard metrics (wins and ERA), but 59:11 K:BB in 55 innings?

          1. Has he cleared waivers yet? I'm kind of annoyed the Twins aren't claiming him, but I'm not surprised.

            1. Obviously, the 43 pitches he threw in facing 10 batters for Tampa have proven that he's not a Major League pitcher.

    1. If they need to find a site, I can think of a town I live in that would be perfect...

But seriously, good on them. Hopefully Lift Bridge will have a tasting room now, since the place is about a mile from my dad's house.

Also, it might be borderline forbidden, but I recommend finding the audio of the Alabama house debating a bill to legalize homebrewing. It will shock, anger, and confuse the shit out of you, the arguments put forth.

  5. finally got around to buying an antenna for the old plasma. the finals look surprisingly amazing over the air.
