Things are looking brighter. The Twins swept a mediocre team, won their first three game series against a better team, and did well against Texas.
Texas sends another lefty to the mound tonight, since it worked so well last night. Let's just not give up the game-tying homer this time, okay?
I'm if favor of not giving up the go-ahead homer, too.
holy cr@p, just saw tonight's starters. Is our LH-facing lineup really that weak, or does Gardy hate The Dunce that much?? I guess Gardy wouldn't DH _elmon if he really hated Duensing...
I was hanging at the local card shop this evening, and some talking heads (ESPN? MLB Network, whatever) where going over the day's news, and they brought up Souhan's article today; they pretty much took him to task, although I'd just as soon he didn't get any recognition, good or bad, unless it was by a resurrected FJM.
It must have been MLB Network. I wouldn't expect ESPN to give a quality take on a piece of trash like that.
It was an astounding piece of crap.
Twice baked crap.
And still runny.
Didn't Mijares have this surgery a few years ago?
I won't be around until the later innings, if at all. Make it happen, kids!
Hello - finally transitioned to the new site.
Slow connection or summat?
4 children and a struggling business. Not to mentioned lack of interest in AAA baseball.
*puts away the "Have You Seen Me?" posters*
*wants to reach out to Revere's mugshot, turn the cap bill until it's straight, then put a nice big-@ss bend in it the way it's meant to be*
Not sure I like Kurtz' pronunciation of casss-SEEuh
It is clear he's used to pronouncing European names.
err, ummmm. uhhh.
h3lls b3lls
Okay, rain, do your thing.
Apparently it's going to rain for another 20 minutes, so just long enough for the Twins to kick the ball around and lose the game I guess?
Duensing not looking so hot out there tonight.
Uggles
I am not liking this inning.
The Twins are turning back into a pumpkin.
Dana Demouth doing his best to make sure this happens, I see.
Nevermind, he was correct. Color me surprised. I still hope he is out of a job and replaced by Johnny 5 next season.
I live a long way from Rangers Ballpark and the local cable carries fssw(astros), and still I'm blacked out on MLB.tv. Damn the man.
I'm interested in seeing what I'm blacked out of down there. Dodgers, Angels, maybe Padres? They wouldn't screw me on A's and Giants, would they?
zoinks!
Look here.
Just the LA teams! Fantastic. Thanks, man.
I'll actually be living somewhat close to Dodger Stadium, so that'll be another ballpark knocked off my list in short order.
Don't get stabbed, please.
I will wear all blue, and remain silent at all times. It's not like I'm a loud, attention-seeking actor-type that...oh, snap...
I live a long way from Rangers Ballpark and the local cable carries fssw(astros), and still I'm blacked out on MLB.tv. Damn the man.
everything is bigger in Texas, man.
I'm really sick of Gardy taking out his impotence on the umpires
I was hoping for an ejection. I'm all about seeing history.
Nice slide, really nice
Good call.. Mauer usually gets his leg there to block the plate.
Butera seems pretty bad at covering the plate on plays like that. It drives me crazy, probably because Mauer is so good at it and Butera is terrible at almost everything.
We really miss Henry Blanco.
I miss Corky Miller.
FWIW, I thought he got the tag on him just before he got to the plate.
frack
Whelp, that's that. I hope when I read the recap tomorrow, I hear that there was a rainout.
did I say "frack" yet?
Wife wants to watch a movie. Really, why would I fight that tonight?
Yeah, this game is no better than Hope Floats.
yes, yes it is.
I overreached.
Holy keystone cops.
Who is in the radio booth?
Kurtz?
Sure, I've never heard his voice before, and for the first time in a long time I feel like I actually know what's happening on the field.
The good news is that the Twins could potentially get a mulligan on this game.
Yeah, I'm outta here. Have fun, everybody
I picked the wrong day to start watching Twins baseball again.
Nice to see other teams suffer give-back runs as well
THE TWINS ARE GOING TO SCORE A RUN IN THIS GAME!!!
Any more bold predictions?
Graceful slide by Butters.
He was out, too, I think. But, we'll take it.
The umpiring in this series has been embarrassingly bad.
The umpiring in
this seriesMajor League Baseballhas beenis embarrassingly bad.FTFY.
evening, all. just got home. it's 7-1 and absolutely pouring as far as i can tell. so, uh, what's going on?
The Dunce's ball-handling abilities aren't real great in the rain.
is that all it is?
I suppose it might be the apocalypse, too, but mainly it's Duensing.
+ 2112
I thought it was October 21st now.
And, of course, soon to be December 6th-ish.
Rain, rain, come back. Go away some other day.
Texas feed does a nice bit on Bert, mocking the resistance against getting him into the Hall. Hearing other people talk about Bert and not having to hear him makes him a lot easier to take.
Dazzle mentions He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsbYx6hevoQ
Cuddyer has man muscles.
but girly legs.
Apparently, tonight LaRussa becomes the second man to manage 5,000 games. That's a large number.
i think it was HBT that mentioned he's still the first to overmanage 5,000 games.
Awesome.
Think of all the pitching change opportunities!
Connie Mack has managed waayyyy more games. I'd love to see a pitching change comparison. I know the eras couldn't be more different, but still.
Hmmmm, game logs exist since before Cornelius McGillicuddy started managing, so if we just assume he wasn't ejected ever, then it's just a simple (heh) sum of pitchers used.
Nope, it's only a brief summary of the games. Darn.
MLB Network trivia asked which four active managers have a better win % than LaRussa. #4: Gardy
I would have gotten that. Girardi? Francona? Torre?
active
Scioscia was one of them. I think needed better than .540 to make the list, and Gardy was .544(?)
Torre isn't active? Oh, right, Mattingly. Ahem.
By contrast, I've lived about 11,500 days.
oooh, nice! I accidentally enlarged text in Chrome, so I shrunk it down a couple step, and now I get a whole lot of text in my dialog real estate. should have done this long ago
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Shut up about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!
*shoves cotton into bleeding ears*
In fairness, I don't think there's much risk of cursing this game.
Ministry of Information Retrieval comes through with the trivia answer for the day; was it quick enough? we shall see...
It'd be nice to get a couple more runs off of CJ Wilson.
This sounds like an underrating. He's a very good pitcher, man.
That's why I want more runs.
Okay, that makes more sense. I mean, the sentiment does, not the idea that it would actually happen.
Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, Butter Chicken, Naan. I'm in Heaven, despite the game.
The beer could be better, but it was lady's choice and it's hardly Bud Light, so I can deal.
Chic-Fil-A spicy chicken sandwich w/Colby Jack, waffle fries, diet Dr. Pepper (with a spritz* of Cherry Coke)
* pronounced schprits
Hee hee!
I need some good Indian food recipes. My ex-gf made a really good spicy chicken and cauliflower dish in some sort of red sauce. I have no idea what it was because I suck at knowing Indian food. Maybe you can help.
Tip from the Ministry of Information Retrieval: enter "spicy chicken and cauliflower dish in some sort of red sauce" into teh Google
I think you're probably just talking about Chicken Cauliflower Curry (or "Chicken Curry with Cauliflower").
I almost married an Indian girl and that's where my deep love of the stuff came from, and lucky me, my thoroughly midwestern and colorless Milkmaid loves it too. I have Indian food suggestions if you're ever looking, though I'm not the one who cooks. bS is also a pretty big fan of the stuff.
Yeah, I love Indian food and I need to get more vegetables into my diet, so I'd love to hear more ideas.
I will try to post a The Nation Has An Appetite item this weekend with a suggestion or two. But check the archives and teh Google for past recipes on the old site.
look for Aloo Ghobi as a starting point. Or just search for curried cauliflower.
I am making dal makhani tonight, albeit with plain brown lentils and with no dairy (boo!).
oh, and I have a sixer of Boont Amber.
Your beer can beat up my beer.
with one hand tied behind its back
Sigh. Well, it's my choice next time (and about seven times out of eight. I have no complaints).
How is it only the 5th inning???
Butters is raking. It's rally time!
Cuddy ribbi.
we may tie this one up by about the 18th or so
Well we got the steal/balk out of the way.
Who's got a Twingo?!
I blame this game on the fact that I saw Nick Punto walking in downtown Milwaukee over the lunch hour. I knew it was a bad omen.
Most things can safely be blamed on Nick Punto. Did you acknowledge that you knew him? By, say, punching him square in the nuts?
Did you acknowledge that you knew him? By, say, punching him square in the nuts?
That second sentence seems redundant. How else would you acknowledge that you knew him?
I guess it is the obvious greeting.
I'm going to be tested by that situation a lot in LA, I suspect.
LA? You don't acknowledge anyone unless you are spoken to.
I assume I come off differently here, but in person, that's right up my alley.
If we ever meet up in person, I'll make sure to wear a cup.
And don't wear a White Sox jersey, or I'm apt to put you in a coma because you'd deserve it.
I'd blow up puppies with fireworks before I ever put on a Bitch Sox jersey.
Dbag took it off his elbow guard.
Swing the bat!
If they'd have brought in Chuck James earlier, it'd be 11-8 Twins right now.
and the Comeback begins.
butera 3-3? so the world is ending soon.
yeah, hammy definitely deflected that with his iPad.
TRON
How many will Hoey give up?
I admire LaRussa's restraint on the night of his 5000th game managed. It was an eight-run loss, but he amazingly used only three pitchers!
Does anybody know the background colors that are used for comments here? One is white (obviously) and the other is some sort of gray. Also, the other one is some sort of pink. It would be useful for me to know this.
eh? if this is a serious question, i believe it alternates between white and grey for the first comment of a thread, and the pinkish one is if the author of the post's comments.
are you talking about the 6-digit color code? if so, that's far beyond me.
Yeah, I need it for my The Nation Has Problems post. Although it just occurred to me that people's span tags might get stripped anyway. I need some good way for people to post "invisible" solutions in the comments.
ahh. yeah, i'd probably try to track sean down for that one. worst comes to worst, post it as a picture on flickr or imageshack or something, and offer the URL.
if memory serves, white is generally #FFFFFF, which stands for #FFFFFF#$k this season.
Yeah, that one I know. You can also just use "color=white". That doesn't work for this color gray or pink tho.
In more positive news, the White Sox just blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs by giving up a bases clearing double. 7-5 A's.
"I'm Rhubarb_Runner, and I approve of this LTE."
1-2-3 for Hoey.
Make him closer!
Why does he save his best outing for tonight?
do you really expect it to work out any other way?
Yeah, it was Butters's best night, too.
nice night for Cuddy to go 2-2 with 2 BBs, too.
Make him closer to being a former Twin!
Boo!
I guess the AAA team can't win every night.
Everyone (but me) enjoy the 'nationally' televised game tomorrow. FOX will try to make me watch Cubs-Phillies and I will tell them, well nothing. No way I'd watch that though.
Also the A's just won. Hurray!

Invisible text test!
Text!
Fail!
It's be nice if the text didn't show up on the sidebar, but it looks like this much works.
that's true, but if it's in the body of post, i don't think it would show up, so it should serve its purpose.
Yeah. I'll work on hacking in something to hide it from the sidebar.
