    1. holy cr@p, just saw tonight's starters. Is our LH-facing lineup really that weak, or does Gardy hate The Dunce that much?? I guess Gardy wouldn't DH _elmon if he really hated Duensing...

  1. I was hanging at the local card shop this evening, and some talking heads (ESPN? MLB Network, whatever) where going over the day's news, and they brought up Souhan's article today; they pretty much took him to task, although I'd just as soon he didn't get any recognition, good or bad, unless it was by a resurrected FJM.

    1. It must have been MLB Network. I wouldn't expect ESPN to give a quality take on a piece of trash like that.

      1. 4 children and a struggling business. Not to mentioned lack of interest in AAA baseball.

    1. Apparently it's going to rain for another 20 minutes, so just long enough for the Twins to kick the ball around and lose the game I guess?

      1. Nevermind, he was correct. Color me surprised. I still hope he is out of a job and replaced by Johnny 5 next season.

  2. I live a long way from Rangers Ballpark and the local cable carries fssw(astros), and still I'm blacked out on MLB.tv. Damn the man.

    1. I'm interested in seeing what I'm blacked out of down there. Dodgers, Angels, maybe Padres? They wouldn't screw me on A's and Giants, would they?

          1. Just the LA teams! Fantastic. Thanks, man.

I'll actually be living somewhat close to Dodger Stadium, so that'll be another ballpark knocked off my list in short order.

              1. I will wear all blue, and remain silent at all times. It's not like I'm a loud, attention-seeking actor-type that...oh, snap...

everything is bigger in Texas, man.

    1. Butera seems pretty bad at covering the plate on plays like that. It drives me crazy, probably because Mauer is so good at it and Butera is terrible at almost everything.

      1. Sure, I've never heard his voice before, and for the first time in a long time I feel like I actually know what's happening on the field.

  3. The good news is that the Twins could potentially get a mulligan on this game.

  4. evening, all. just got home. it's 7-1 and absolutely pouring as far as i can tell. so, uh, what's going on?

  5. Texas feed does a nice bit on Bert, mocking the resistance against getting him into the Hall. Hearing other people talk about Bert and not having to hear him makes him a lot easier to take.

    1. i think it was HBT that mentioned he's still the first to overmanage 5,000 games.

      1. Connie Mack has managed waayyyy more games. I'd love to see a pitching change comparison. I know the eras couldn't be more different, but still.

        1. Hmmmm, game logs exist since before Cornelius McGillicuddy started managing, so if we just assume he wasn't ejected ever, then it's just a simple (heh) sum of pitchers used.

  6. oooh, nice! I accidentally enlarged text in Chrome, so I shrunk it down a couple step, and now I get a whole lot of text in my dialog real estate. should have done this long ago

    1. I need some good Indian food recipes. My ex-gf made a really good spicy chicken and cauliflower dish in some sort of red sauce. I have no idea what it was because I suck at knowing Indian food. Maybe you can help.

        1. I almost married an Indian girl and that's where my deep love of the stuff came from, and lucky me, my thoroughly midwestern and colorless Milkmaid loves it too. I have Indian food suggestions if you're ever looking, though I'm not the one who cooks. bS is also a pretty big fan of the stuff.

          1. Yeah, I love Indian food and I need to get more vegetables into my diet, so I'd love to hear more ideas.

            1. I will try to post a The Nation Has An Appetite item this weekend with a suggestion or two. But check the archives and teh Google for past recipes on the old site.

      1. look for Aloo Ghobi as a starting point. Or just search for curried cauliflower.

I am making dal makhani tonight, albeit with plain brown lentils and with no dairy (boo!).

  7. I blame this game on the fact that I saw Nick Punto walking in downtown Milwaukee over the lunch hour. I knew it was a bad omen.

    1. Most things can safely be blamed on Nick Punto. Did you acknowledge that you knew him? By, say, punching him square in the nuts?

      1. Did you acknowledge that you knew him? By, say, punching him square in the nuts?

That second sentence seems redundant. How else would you acknowledge that you knew him?

  8. I admire LaRussa's restraint on the night of his 5000th game managed. It was an eight-run loss, but he amazingly used only three pitchers!

  9. Does anybody know the background colors that are used for comments here? One is white (obviously) and the other is some sort of gray. Also, the other one is some sort of pink. It would be useful for me to know this.

    1. eh? if this is a serious question, i believe it alternates between white and grey for the first comment of a thread, and the pinkish one is if the author of the post's comments.

are you talking about the 6-digit color code? if so, that's far beyond me.

      1. Yeah, I need it for my The Nation Has Problems post. Although it just occurred to me that people's span tags might get stripped anyway. I need some good way for people to post "invisible" solutions in the comments.

        1. ahh. yeah, i'd probably try to track sean down for that one. worst comes to worst, post it as a picture on flickr or imageshack or something, and offer the URL.

          1. if memory serves, white is generally #FFFFFF, which stands for #FFFFFF#$k this season.

            1. Yeah, that one I know. You can also just use "color=white". That doesn't work for this color gray or pink tho.

  10. In more positive news, the White Sox just blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs by giving up a bases clearing double. 7-5 A's.

  11. Boo!

I guess the AAA team can't win every night.

Everyone (but me) enjoy the 'nationally' televised game tomorrow. FOX will try to make me watch Cubs-Phillies and I will tell them, well nothing. No way I'd watch that though.

        1. that's true, but if it's in the body of post, i don't think it would show up, so it should serve its purpose.
