Minor Details: Games of 4/14

Another split.  Lots of late-game action.  Angel Morales has four hits.

LEHIGH VALLEY 5, ROCHESTER 2 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting stars:  Joe Benson and Drew Butera were each 2-for-4.  Brian Dozier was 2-for-5.

Pitching starSam Deduno gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings.

Opposition stars:  Hector Luna doubled and homered.  Scott Elarton gave up a run on six hits and a walk in six innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  An error allowed the Red Wings to tie the game at two in the top of the inning.  In the bottom half, new pitcher Esmerling Vasquez allowed three runs, with Domonic Brown capping the inning and the scoring for the game with a two-run triple.

NEW BRITAIN 7, NEW HAMPSHIRE 6 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Batting starsChris Colabello was 3-for-5 with two doubles.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-5 with a double and drove in three.  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starLogan Darnell worked five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Howard was 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk.  Brian Van Kirk singled and doubled.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Leading 7-1, David Bromberg came in to pitch and allowed the first five Fisher Cats to reach base, making the score 7-5.  Before the inning ended, New Hampshire had pulled within one and had the tying run on second before Daniel Turpen struck out Koby Clemens to end the game.

FORT MYERS 8, BRADENTON 7 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Angel Morales was 4-for-5 with a double and home run.  He scored three times and drove in three.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-5 with a double and a homer.  Daniel Rohlfing was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.

Pitching starJose Gonzalez pitched two shutout innings of relief, allowing just a walk.

Opposition stars:  Mel Rojas was 3-for-5 with a double.  Porfirio Lopez struck out four in three shutout innings of relief.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Fort Myers led 7-3 after eight, but the Marauders scored four times in the top of the ninth, with all four runs scoring after two were out.  Lance Ray led off the bottom of the ninth with a double.  He had only gotten to third with two out, but Danny Santana singled him home to win the game.

CLINTON 4, BELOIT 3 IN CLINTON (11 INNINGS)

Batting starsJonathan Goncalves and Eddie Rosario were each 2-for-5 with a double.  Miguel Sano was also 2-for-5.

Pitching starsNelvin Fuentes struck out four in two perfect innings.  Ryan O’Rourke gave up only one hit in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Steven Baron and Jean Acevedo each had two doubles.

Key inning:  The eleventh.  The Snappers put their first two men on base in the top of the inning, but could not score.  Jamal Austin drove in Acevedo with one out in the bottom of the inning to win the game for the LumberKings.

  1. I wanted to listen to the Rochester game the other day, and I noticed that radio feeds aren't free for the minor leagues anymore. That made me a bit sad. I remember last summer listening to day games from AA or AAA through work. Here, those same games would be great after-work listening.

    1. Really? I haven't had the chance to listen yet, so I didn't know that. It makes me sad, too, and it also seems short-sighted. I can't think large numbers of people are going to pay to listen to minor league games, especially when you can get mlb audio for twenty bucks a year.
