Go Twins!
Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes.
But it's alright now.
I went to a Gardenhire party.
+a full Nelson
1. Denard Span, CF
2. Jamey Carroll, SS
3. Joe Mauer, C
4. Josh Willingham, LF
5. Justin Morneau, DH
6. Chris Parmelee, 1B
7. Sean Burroughs, 3B
8. Clete Thomas, RF
9. Alexi Casilla, 2B
What happens when Span gets ejected tonight?
Also, did anybody every find out what he said? It seemed like a BS ejection.
I just watched the video- Gibson actually let Span vent for quite a while before he tossed him, but it was still BS. It was a ball, and it didn't look to me like Span did anything to show up the ump. Gardy's ejection looked like it was pretty well-deserved, however π .
He may not be an ace, but he does have a "Marquis" name.
fair ball! on the board
Cuzzi isn't the third-base ump tonight, evidently.
Sweet Carrolline!
Hey JC, JC you're alright by me!
I really want to see Mauer rip a liner over that 140 foot fence in right.
I'll take that too.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOO
holy crap! that was blasted
TOO MANY RUNS! SAVE SOME FOR LATER!
Oh Mountie, you so fine. You so fine you blow my mind!
We've got the runs! oh, that came out wrong.
Run it up!
Only 4 runs? I was hoping for 8.
1-2-3 inning please
rats
No. That would be too easy. I guess you can still root for a triple-play, though.
Barring that, we can still root to have the lead after the inning is over.
Not looking good for that either, unfortunately.
Marquis doing his best Liriano impression so far.
Marquis de Sade.
He's got a cool 81.00 ERA going right now.
Yeah, that about sums it up.
Although, it could just as well be the Marquis de Suck.
some serious bad luck going on. Cano get a hit on a pitch over his eyes, and Swisher dribbles one past Casilla
Yankees baseball.
Marvelous.
OFFS
OFFS
Oh, for fuck's sake.
x2
I hate you for meeting my expectations here, Marquis.
Nicely put.
Boy,
Livan HernandezSidney PonsonJason Marquis is really struggling, isn't he!Livan led the league in Wins for a point there.
/May not be true, but something like that.
Don't forget Razor Ramon's hot start.
I hope that Marquis is buying Casilla's beverages of choice tonight after he saved his ass there.
jeebus.
still have the lead..so we got that
Oh shit!
Our rotation appears to be creating a vortex of suck.
well, the twins still have the lead... right?
This is accurate as of 6:47 pm CDT.
Time for four more, right!?
Better make it eight.
Nice to have that early run against the Yankees. Too bad Marquis had to use so many pitches to get out of that early jam. 1-0, Twins. At least, that is how I'm going to choose to remember it.
So, is Marquis pulling a Liriano or a Pavano?
I'm going to guess we'll start wondering if pitchers are going to pull a Marquis after his outing.
PavLiria- because it's definitely not a no-no.
Lazy ass tag by Cano there.
nice tag Cano
fielding Hammy
Solid.
shanked.
Morneau says 'take that, shift!'
Damn you.
Take that, shift!
Doublee!
Mountie seems to be heating up.
The 6th Burrough.
Runners on first & third with one out and Bremer is calling for the sac fly? Sigh.
Yeah, clearly the strategy in that situation is to pray for a wild pitch.
He's watched a lot of bad baseball...
At least it was only one out. I seriously doubt he was eschewing a base hit.
Marquis is allergic to the multiple-run lead.
Joe needs to tell Marquis that just because we scored doesn't mean he has to allow the Yankees to score that same inning.
Pitchers' duels are overrated.
That inning blew.
And it's not getting better.
The suck has crept into the bottom of the inning, too.
I've never felt like the Twins were so far behind with a one run lead.
No, Marquis, there are so many better people in that lineup to hit than Russel Martin.
Is match play in golf the format where you win or lose each hole, rather than total score? It would be interesting to play a few ball games where you get 1 point for outscoring your opponent in an inning, whether by 1 run or 10, just to see what would transpire.
It would cut down on the length of games by a ton.
They'd still have to last at least 5 innings, but you are correct, sir.
That was a helluva pitch for strike 3.
He's a pitcher, not a thrower.
not a belly itcher?
Where did Pork think that was?
That's better than a bunt, Dick.
MOUNTIE!!!
That's a lot of excitement for taking two balls outside, bS. I will wait patiently for my Gameday to catch up.
Yes, yes he did. Now waiting patiently for the video highlight.
And it was just as glorious as I hoped it would be.
Mount up!!
WOW OH WOW
Mountie!!!
Clearly Canadian!
Dialed in.
Gosh darn it's good to have him back!
"Daddy, you scared me!" I guess I shouldn't freak out my 3 yr old when Morneau hits a homer
Wow.
Just. Wow.
Spookied that! Yippeeeeeee
In play, run(s) can only mean a Mountie HR!
That one went many moose antlers.
See now... can you imagine 09 and 10 playoffs if Morneau were active?
Rumors of Morneau's demise were greatly exaggerated.
Oh man, I really hope so.
That poor baseball. It never saw it coming.
Wow, really? One solo homer and they pull him? Kuroda just had a 1-2-3 inning, correct? Interesting. Fine by me.
Can you imagine if Morneau played half his games in a bandbox.
I think all 3 of his HRs this series would have been a HR at Target Field.
But that doesn't fit the narrative!
oh, I forgot
Yeah, stay on script.
Clay Rapada had a badass mustache when he was a Diamondback.
Sorry I keep doing this to you, dw, but in this case I think you're thinking of Clay Zavada. I say it now since I want everyone to make sure they examine for the first time, or refresh their memories of, Zavada's awesome mustache.
Clay Zavada should also play for the A's.
man alive. I got a case of the mixups or something
Bert: "Clay Rapada coming in to replace Kuroka."
Kuroda, Bert. He's a starting pitcher. He's today's starting pitcher, and he's fairly decent. Learn his name.
karaoke.
rabotayaki.
It was "Kuroki" earlier.
We had two Japanese girls in our theater department. One was short, gorgeous, spoke perfect English, was kind of a bitch and had a lot of acting talent. The other was tall, plain, spoke broken English, was incredibly sweet and had no discernible acting talent. Still, one of our faculty members always mixed up their names.
Well all them Oriental names sound alike!
Yin and Yang, you might say.
Their names did both start with Y...
Sterling saying Morneau and Mauer are back and that's good for baseball.
Well, as long as they are playing in New York it is.
You don't get to boo catcher-pitcher conferences, New York.
Su-weet! Time stopped there.
That was a sweet DP.
I'm with Suzyn on the replay - bad call.
3-6-Ump
Well sort of a DP.
I'm not saying it was a good call, but it was still sweet.
The Twins got a call for them in New York? No... no, no, no... this isn't right at all...
Yeah, I almost couldn't enjoy it because it was so confusing.
we are living in the
darkestbrightest timelineI approve of this comment
cool cool cool
And I think Souhan just had a positive Twins related tweet. What in the hell.
I see there is a note attached to the bottom of that stadium column he wrote
Well, Marquis finally figured out how to now allow a get-back run. With some help. I'm heading home, so hold down the fort (and the lead) while I'm gone.
Laddie!
ClAy RApAdA should play for Oakland.
I will give Bert credit, I laughed heartily when he said "that's a pretty good pitch right there" on the throw to first.
He can be funny at times--mostly when he's setting people's shoes on fire.
and when he's farting.
I liked that too.
makeup call
No fair...I typed two more words.
There's your makeup call.
Tie goes to the runner. That was close, though.
1st base ump is at least consistent.
Thot that last one was low - whatever.
MWM due up.
in MWM we trust.
flipped over to the hockey game. It was 3-2 Flyers last time I checked in during the 1st period. Its now 9-3 Penguins. LOL what?
are they saying 'boo' or 'Boone'?
Do you think his teammates call him Booner?
Either that or Boone's Farm.
boooooooooooooo
Mountie up.
Is it too much to ask for a triple of Canadian club?
Looked like a cricket toss, there.
Yes.
Joe Piscopo in the yanquis booth. Meh.
Oh, so the Yankees booth can be more annoying. I didn't know that was possible!
Oui.
1985 called. They want their 'star' back
It seems Gardy plans to use Duensing early and often this year. Ah, the perils of being a quality reliever in the Twin's bullpen.
I dislike Nick Swisher
Oh lord it's only the 7th?
Eighth now!
Thank goodness!
He gone.
Attaboy, Interchangeable Relief Pitcher #24601!
Can I get that on the back of a jersey?
that would be an awesome jersey number.
So, with Perk hurt who does Gardy bring in for the 8th?
Alex Burnett. The next couple of innings are going to be white knuckle excitement.
Burnett?
Grey or Maloney, right? Oh, I forgot Burnett. Um, maybe just bring in Capps and let him get the blown save over with?
Maloney pitched 3 innings last night
Oops. I'm not following these games nearly as closely as I want to.
holy frack -- a lead?!
Clete-fial, there.
Good work there - Laddie.
Nice effort, An_ruw.
Yea, Laddie.
Nice hustle there by Jones.
Burton back out there
Uh oh, going to be Cuzzi'd.
Phil cuzzi strikes again.
There's a local plumbing company here in Omaha called Burton Plumbing and their catch phrase is "When your plumbings hurtin', time to call Burton." It's all I can think of every time I see Burton.
So, When your pitchin's hurtin' time to call Burton.
The way he's playing here now, looks like Andruw DID retire already.
I don't mind this Burton fellow.
Haven't been able to be here for almost a year. Sure would love to see some puppies soon!
Howdy!
Dicta's back!
It's been WAY too long. Life has really gotten in the way since last summer.
it does that sometimes. welcome back!
Let's hope the Twins mark this occasion with a W!
Okay, time to make this lead Capps proof.
So apparently nondescript trash heap relievers are the Yankees weakness. Twins need to have five guys like this ready to go every time they face the Yanks.
Burton is not your run of the mill middle reliever. He has a career 127 ERA+ in over 170 innings and a 7.7 K/9. I believe he was a setup man for the Reds and then got hurt the last couple years.
Willie
clutch ham
do you think Morneau gets IBB'd tomorrow?
All. Night. Long.
Make em pay parm parm.
Welp, time to buckle up.
I almost can't watch.
I'm actually certain it's the best line up money can buy, Bert.
That looked like a pop-up. Bandbronx'd.
Jesus, Capps. You suck.
Now that is Crapps-tastic.
Shocking.
..................
Jeter? WTF?
Yeah, I spookied that.
Hard not to with that dingus, right?
It's spelled "Dicus", I believe.
Just like Capps, I'm not fast enough.
Yeah, I have to keep that name in the back pocket. Missed opportunity there.
I think you mean dicus...
And THAT'S why we want to lead by more than one
hate to say it because I hate the guy, but that was a great AB by Jeter. then he hit the ball far
Great AB helped out by a bandbox. Can't get on Capps for that one. He saved a two-run lead facing A-Rod, Jeter, Granderson and Teixeira. He pwned Granderson, too.
It's a bandbox, yeah, but at least right center is a pretty legit homer. It's not like a fence-scraper down the right field line.
The distance may be legit, but there's a jet stream going out to the gaps in this park, a lot like Texas.
C'mon...strike out Doucheira to end the game...
Whew.
I HAD FULL CONFIDENCE IN YOU THE WHOLE TIME CAPPS!!!!!!!!!
Ooooooyyyyy.
So... Twitchy had his obligatory base runner.... Capps has his obligatory run?
What chaunce threw a cup at Clete? Stay classy NY.
Nice.
I am so effing slow tonight!
I didnt see that
Anyone else see that cup get thrown at Thomas as he tried to catch that last ball?
Stay classy NY.
Wow. We're, like, connected, bro.
Did anybody notice somebody tried to throw a cup at Thomas right before he caught the ball? I wonder if they would have called him out had that screwed him up.
I think someone else noticed.
I'm guessing they wouldn't have. It's NY. That's just what teams have to deal with there.
Meanwhile, I was at the game when Joe Torre pulled his players off the field and threatened to make the Twins forfeit because someone threw a hot dog at Knoblauch between batters.
When I went to Game 1 of the 2004 ALDS, no one really harassed me (one perk of being in the 5th to last row in the upper deck RF corner), but I bumped into some Twins fans on the way out who were sitting just beyond the RF fence in the first couple of rows and had bottles and batteries thrown at them (and saw a few thrown at Jacque Jones).
Yeah, I remember a lot of ballplayers at the time saying "I've had way worse than hot dogs thrown at me when I was a visiting player in NY."
I also seem to recall that a certain sports news station praised Joe Torre's brave decision and talked about how awful the fans were in MN.
Someone tell Capps that you still get a save if you lead by up to 3 runs. He doesn't have to keep letting them score to get within one.
According to the Yesmen Doucheira just missed a home run with that.
well, the ball was thrown right down the middle of the plate. He just got underneath it
Also pop flies like that can be home runs in their little league right field porch.
Watching on TV, it looked like good location, up and in. I was surprised it went as far as it did.
Gameday has the final out on video. It wasn't up, but it was right on the inside corner. Mauer set up inside and his glove didn't move.
Last time Twins won two in New York: 2001.
Twice in one series or one season?
Yes.
That is a really long time. Really.
Chad Allen.
MARQUIS IS UNBEATEN IN APRIL111!!!!!111
He's the Anti-Timberwolf!!!!!
Nice to get at least a split. I promised the wife ice cream if the Twins won, so we're off to DQ.
I'm going to log out and go to bed. When I wake up and look back at this game log I want puppies!
Do it for Dicta!
