Minor Details: Games of 5/4

Rochester blanks the Yanks.  Miguel Sano comes through again.  A Ramon Ortiz sighting!

ROCHESTER 3, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 0 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEES HOME GAME)

Batting starMatt Rizzotti was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Pitching starsScott Diamond and Esmerling Vasquez each worked three shutout innings, with Diamond allowing three hits and two walks and Vasquez giving up only one hit.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Russo was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Raymond Kruml was 2-for-4.  Ramon Ortiz worked six innings, giving up a run on five hits and two walks while striking out six.

Key inning:  The ninth.  In a 1-0 game, the Red Wings scored twice on an RBI single by Darin Mastroianni and a sacrifice fly by Ben Revere.  In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out, but Anthony Slama struck out Steve Pearce and retired Jack Cust on a fly to center to end the game.

OtherSean Burroughs has accepted an outright assignment to Rochester.

PORTLAND 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsDeibinson Romero was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Pitching starsLester Oliveros struck out five in two perfect innings.  Daniel Turpen struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Bryce Brentz was 2-for-4 with a double.  Oscar Tejada hit a two run homer.  Caleb Clay struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Trailing 4-2, the Rock Cats got three consecutive singles, cutting the lead to one and putting runners on first and second with one out.  Pedro Florimon grounded into a double play to end the threat.

LAKELAND 6, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starOswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starsMiguel Munoz allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings.  Matthew Hauser allowed one hit in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Luis Castillo was 3-for-5 with a double.  Marcus Lemon was 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk.  Kevin Eichhorn gave up one run on six hits in 6.2 innings.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Already up 3-0, the Flying Tigers opened the inning with a single and a two run homer by Lemon to put the game out of reach.

BELOIT 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, his eighth.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Wang Wei-Lin was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching starsSteven Gruver gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in five innings, striking out four.  Clint Dempster worked 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Kaleb Cowart hit a home run.  Michael Clevinger gave up a run on five hits and a walk in five innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With one out and one on in a game tied at three, Sano hit a two run homer to give the Snappers the go-ahead and ultimately winning runs.

OtherSano is tied for the league lead in home runs with Burlington’s Dusty Robinson.  He leads the league in RBIs, OBP, and OPS, and is three points behind Robinson in slugging.
